The boys are officially coming back.
Netflix has confirmed that The Inbetweeners 3 is now in production, bringing the original stars of the beloved British comedy franchise back together more than a decade after the second film. While the announcement has generated excitement among longtime fans, not everyone is convinced that revisiting the series is the right move.
The streaming platform revealed on September 7 that Simon Bird, James Buckley, Blake Harrison and Joe Thomas will reprise their roles as Will McKenzie, Jay Cartwright, Neil Sutherland and Simon Cooper.
Original creators Damon Beesley and Iain Morris are also returning to write and direct the new film, while Claire Jones, Banijay’s Patrick Holland and Fudge Park Production’s Mark Lesbirel will serve as executive producers.

A Return to One of Britain’s Most Popular Comedy Franchises
The Inbetweeners first premiered as a British coming-of-age sitcom on Channel 4 in 2008.
The series followed Will and his friends as they navigated the awkward realities of school, friendship and adolescence, including the group’s consistently unsuccessful attempts at romance and sex.
The comedy ran for three seasons before ending in 2010, but the franchise quickly expanded beyond television.
The Inbetweeners Movie arrived in 2011, followed by The Inbetweeners 2 in 2014. An American version of the series was also released in 2012.
Now, more than a decade after the last film, the original group is reuniting for another chapter.
In a statement released with Netflix’s announcement, Beesley and Morris said it had been “super-fun” spending time with the cast again and joked that they would work hard to make sure there were no “problemos” while making the new film.
Fans Are Excited but Also Nervous

The announcement quickly sparked debate online, particularly among viewers wondering whether The Inbetweeners can successfully return after so many years.
Some fans argued that the franchise should have been left in the past, expressing concerns that a revival may struggle to recreate the humour and appeal of the original.
Others worried that the type of comedy that made The Inbetweeners so popular could be difficult to revisit in a modern context. One fan admitted to feeling nervous about the project, arguing that revivals and reunions do not always work.
But the reaction was far from entirely negative.
Many viewers said they were cautiously optimistic, particularly if the new film remains faithful to the humour and spirit of the original series.
Some fans also expressed hope that The Inbetweeners 3 would take the characters back to their roots. Rather than sending the group on another international trip, viewers suggested that a story set closer to their hometown could better capture the feeling of the original sitcom.
Others simply welcomed the chance to see Will, Jay, Neil and Simon together again — with one fan even joking about an unresolved mystery involving the group’s infamous car.
Can the Boys Recapture the Original Magic?

The divided response reflects the challenge facing The Inbetweeners 3.
The original series became a defining British comedy of its era by embracing uncomfortable adolescence, embarrassing situations and the often ridiculous dynamics of male friendship. Returning to those characters years later inevitably raises questions about whether the humour can evolve while still feeling recognizably like The Inbetweeners.
For now, however, Netflix appears confident enough to bring the franchise back with its original cast and creators at the helm.
Whether the reunion proves to be a successful return to form or a project that should have remained in the past remains to be seen. But one thing is clear: after more than a decade away, Will, Jay, Neil and Simon are not done causing “problemos” just yet.
The Inbetweeners TV series is available to stream on Tubi, Pluto TV, The Roku Channel and Prime Video. The Inbetweeners Movie is streaming on Tubi, Sling TV and PLEX, while The Inbetweeners 2 is available to purchase on Prime Video, YouTube, Google Play Movies and Apple TV.
