Carrie Underwood is facing online criticism over her appearance at a star-studded tribute honoring Dolly Parton in Nashville, Tennessee.
The country singer, 43, attended CMA Presents I Will Always Love You: A Celebration of Dolly Parton on Wednesday, October 21. She arrived in a strapless pale pink and white ballgown decorated with floral embroidery, colorful embellishments and sparkling details. Long earrings and her signature blonde hair, styled in loose waves over one shoulder, completed her look.

However, some social media users focused less on her outfit and more on her makeup, complexion and political views.
In an Instagram post, commenters criticized Underwood’s appearance, with some comparing her look to what they called “Mar-a-Lago face.” Others questioned whether her political views aligned with Parton’s values.

One commenter described Underwood’s appearance as “frightening,” while another wrote, “The Mar-a-Lago face coming in strong for Carrie Underwood.”
Others took aim at her complexion. “They went through a lot of orange spray paint at this event,” one critic joked.

The discussion also turned political, with some commenters bringing up Underwood’s decision to perform at Donald Trump’s presidential inauguration in January 2025.
“It is so sad Carrie does not share the same values as Dolly! She lost me as a fan when she sang at [Donald] Trump’s inauguration; such a shame she has such a beautiful voice,” one person wrote.
Another commenter argued that Underwood had no place at a celebration honoring Parton, writing, “Carrie is MAGA! She has no business in a Dolly celebration. Dolly represented love. MAGA is hateful.”
One critic also referenced Parton’s charitable work supporting children, suggesting that Underwood’s political association conflicted with the singer’s values.
The term “Mar-a-Lago face,” sometimes called “MAGA face,” has been used online to describe a highly polished appearance associated with certain cosmetic procedures and styling choices. The look is often characterized by fuller cheeks and lips, smooth skin, sculpted jawlines, bright veneers, a deep tan and vivid lipstick.

Underwood has faced similar criticism since agreeing to perform America the Beautiful at Trump’s 2025 inauguration. The performance encountered a technical problem when the music failed to play, leaving her to sing a cappella.
At the time, Underwood explained her decision in a statement, saying, “I love our country and am honored to have been asked to sing at the Inauguration and to be a small part of this historic event.”
She added that she was “humbled to answer the call at a time when we must all come together in the spirit of unity and looking to the future.”
Underwood has not publicly responded to the latest criticism surrounding her appearance at Parton’s tribute.
