Fourteen-year-old singer Brooklyn Marie Ostlund from Alexandria, Minnesota, is making the most of her opportunity on The Voice Season 30. After impressing the coaches during her Blind Audition, the teenage singer-songwriter joined Team Kelly Clarkson and advanced to the Battle Rounds.
Ostlund caught the attention of Queen Latifah and Clarkson with her performance of Olivia Rodrigo’s Traitor. Latifah, who is making her coaching debut this season alongside Riley Green, turned her chair around almost immediately. Clarkson waited until nearly the end of the performance before turning around, visibly surprised when she saw how young the singer was.

“I’m so excited and so happy for you,” Latifah told Ostlund. “Your voice sounded so special to me right away that I was like, ‘What’s happening here?’ And then I turn around, and you just sing that song like that as you play guitar.”
Ostlund ultimately chose Clarkson as her coach, giving the 14-year-old a chance to learn from a singer who understands the pressure of competing on a major singing competition at a young age.

“I’m so excited and so happy for you,” Clarkson’s fellow coach had said, while Clarkson herself was equally impressed by the teenager’s talent.
“I knew you were young; I did not think 14,” Clarkson said. “I do love working a lot with the younger talent because there’s a freedom about your spirits, and whenever you’re picking songs, and you’re very bold.”
Clarkson also shared her own experience competing as a teenager, telling Ostlund, “I’ve also navigated a competition myself as a teenager and I know how to do it, girl, and I know how to win this show.”
The 11-time coach has won The Voice four times, tying her with Adam Levine, who is the reigning champion. Levine later admitted that he wished he had turned his chair for Ostlund during her audition.
Ostlund told the coaches that she had been performing onstage since she was 3. Clarkson praised the young singer’s distinctive vocal quality and potential.
“Brooklyn has this really special tone and it’s just got a purity to it that we haven’t heard,” Clarkson said. “And, man, her voice is incredible for just a singer, but let alone a 14-year-old.”

Ostlund’s journey continues in the Battle Rounds, where she will compete against another member of Team Kelly. Her performance is scheduled to air Monday, October 26, as the Battles continue. The round is being split across two episodes, airing October 19 and 26.
Outside the competition, the Minnesota teenager has a busy schedule of performances. On Friday, October 23, she is set to sing the national anthem before the Alexandria Blizzard host the Minnesota Wilderness at the PrimeWest Health Runestone Community Center. The game begins at 7:10 p.m.

On Saturday, she is scheduled to perform the national anthem before the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers football team takes on No. 15 Iowa at Huntington Bank Stadium. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m.
Her weekend will continue Sunday with another national anthem performance before the Minnesota Vikings face the Indianapolis Colts at U.S. Bank Stadium at noon.

Fans in Alexandria will also have an opportunity to meet Ostlund and watch her compete on The Voice. A watch party and meet-and-greet event is planned for Monday, October 26, at Carlos Creek Winery. Doors open at 5 p.m., with music beginning at 5:30 p.m. Ostlund is also scheduled to perform at the event.
Her next major challenge will come during Cut Week, a new elimination round that will narrow the competition to 13 artists ahead of the Live Shows. Viewers will find out on November 2 whether Ostlund advances.
For the remainder of Season 30, The Voice airs on Mondays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on NBC, with episodes available to stream on Peacock the following day.
