After years of speculation, New Girl fans may finally have a reason to celebrate. Max Greenfield has revealed that a reunion project is moving forward, sharing that he has already read the scripts—even though an official announcement has yet to be made.
The long-awaited New Girl reunion appears to be closer than ever. During a recent appearance on Today with Jenna & Sheinelle, Max Greenfield, who played the fan-favorite Schmidt, offered the strongest indication yet that the beloved sitcom is preparing for a comeback.

When asked whether a reunion was actually in the works, Greenfield responded confidently, saying, “As far as I know, it’s happening.”
The actor also addressed comments previously made by series creator Liz Meriwether, who admitted she had been hesitant about revisiting the show because she wasn’t sure there were more stories left to tell.
Greenfield, however, quickly dismissed those concerns.

“She’s full of it,” he joked. “I’ve seen scripts. She’s written them. Yeah, they’re amazing. She’s a very talented writer.”
His comments suggest that the project has already moved beyond the planning stage, with completed scripts reportedly in place.
Rumors of a reunion have been circulating for months, fueled by playful exchanges among the cast. Earlier this year, Jake Johnson jokingly told Deadline that every original cast member would return—except Lamorne Morris, claiming the Emmy winner now considered himself “too talented” for the sitcom. The tongue-in-cheek remark was later followed by a humorous Instagram response from Meriwether, who teased fictional behind-the-scenes drama, further fueling speculation that something was indeed happening.
Although neither Fox nor the streaming platforms have officially announced a reunion, Greenfield’s latest update is the clearest sign yet that fans may soon return to the iconic Los Angeles loft.
Originally airing from 2011 to 2018, New Girl followed the quirky Jessica Day, played by Zooey Deschanel, after she moved in with three male roommates following a painful breakup. The series quickly became a fan favorite thanks to its witty humor and memorable ensemble cast, including Deschanel, Greenfield, Jake Johnson, Lamorne Morris, Hannah Simone, and Damon Wayans Jr.

For now, audiences will have to wait for an official confirmation. But if Greenfield’s comments are any indication, the gang may soon be back together for another round of laughs.
