At just 14 years old, Brooklyn Marie is already building a name for herself in country and pop music. The Minnesota singer caught the attention of Kelly Clarkson and Queen Latifah during her Blind Audition on The Voice Season 30, earning two chair turns with her performance of Olivia Rodrigo’s Traitor before ultimately choosing Team Kelly.

But there is much more to Brooklyn than her impressive audition. Known outside the show as Brooklyn Ostlund, the young singer has been performing since she was a toddler, playing multiple instruments, writing original songs, and building experience through live shows long before stepping onto the NBC competition stage.
From her unusually early connection to music to her plans for an album, here are seven surprising facts about the rising singer.
1. She Started Singing Before She Was Two
Brooklyn’s musical journey began much earlier than many fans might expect. According to her mother, Kristin Ostlund, Brooklyn was already harmonizing with the radio at around 17 months old.
Her mother remembers being surprised by how naturally the toddler followed the music. By the time Brooklyn was three, she was already performing on stage, and she began taking piano lessons at five.
In 2016, when Brooklyn was just four years old, she appeared alongside her younger sister, Mady, on Alexandria’s Jingle Bells Telethon. Music has remained a major part of her life ever since.

2. She Can Play Far More Than Just Piano and Guitar
Brooklyn is not only a singer and songwriter. She has also developed skills on a wide range of instruments, including acoustic guitar, electric guitar, bass guitar, banjo, mandolin, drums, and violin.
Her musical interests extend across several genres, too. She enjoys pop, country, rock, folk, and indie pop, allowing her to perform a diverse set of songs at live events.
When describing her love for music, Brooklyn put it simply: “Music is literally my whole life.”
Her mother says she is constantly learning songs, preparing for performances, taking lessons, and coming up with new musical ideas.
3. She Started Writing Her Own Songs at Around 10
While performing other artists’ music helped Brooklyn develop her voice, songwriting soon became another important part of her journey.
At around 10 years old, she wrote her first original song after realizing she could turn the little stories she made up as a child into music.
Today, she keeps plenty of ideas in her phone, saving voice memos and notes whenever inspiration strikes. She even finds herself brainstorming melodies in the shower.
Although her listening habits cover everything from Taylor Swift and Fleetwood Mac to Metallica, she generally gravitates toward pop when writing her own songs.

4. She Has Already Released Original Music and Made a Music Video
Brooklyn has already taken steps toward establishing herself as an independent artist. According to her mother, she has released two original songs and was working on four more at the time of the interview.
She also filmed her first music video for her single Tired, something she once thought was reserved for famous musicians.
The project came together after family friend Alicia Bertram, who owns Licia Marie Photo + Film and Sota Films, offered to help make a video if Brooklyn ever wanted one.
Brooklyn decided to take the opportunity, and the experience gave her another taste of what building a professional music career could look like. Her family hopes she can release a full album in 2027.
5. She Built Up the Endurance to Perform Two-Hour Sets as a Child
Brooklyn’s experience on stage goes beyond school performances and television auditions. Around the age of 10, she watched Alexandria musicians Ray and Kayla Noble perform and wondered whether she could someday do the same.
She began preparing for that goal by learning enough songs to fill a two-hour set. She also practiced daily throughout the summer to build the stamina needed to sing and play guitar for an extended period.

At 12, she performed her first official solo show at a picnic at The Church of St. Mary’s in Alexandria in September 2024.
Since then, she has performed at wineries, breweries, weddings, private parties, corporate events, and other gatherings. Her experience playing for live audiences gave her a foundation well before her The Voice debut.
6. Kelly Clarkson and Queen Latifah Both Turned Their Chairs for Her
Brooklyn reached a major milestone when her Blind Audition aired on September 23, 2026. Performing Olivia Rodrigo’s Traitor, she impressed both Kelly Clarkson and Queen Latifah, who turned their chairs for the young singer.
She ultimately chose Team Kelly, a decision that brought her into the fold of a coach known for her own success as a singer and performer.
According to Brooklyn’s mother, the audition felt almost surreal. The performance lasted only about 90 seconds, and the family was watching from behind a partition, trying to take in everything as it happened.
After Brooklyn made her choice, Clarkson came over to hug the family and welcomed them to the team. Her mother described the coach as friendly, funny, and just as warm in person as she appears on television.
For Brooklyn, the audition marked another important step in a musical journey that started years before she was old enough to compete on the show.
7. Her Family Has Played a Major Role in Her Musical Journey
Brooklyn has not pursued music alone. Her parents have supported her ambitions from an early age, while her three younger siblings, Mady, Westin, and Gavin, have also performed with her.
The siblings have appeared together at events, including the Jingle Bells Telethon, and music remains a shared part of their family life.
Brooklyn has also drawn inspiration from other Minnesota musicians. She previously looked up to singer Josie Nelson, with whom she performed at weddings when she was younger. She has also had opportunities to share the stage with artists she admires.

The Ostlund siblings, Westin, 5, Brooklyn, 9, Mady, 7, and Gavin, 3, performed “Oh, what a special night,” at the 2021 Jingle Bells Telethon.
That combination of family encouragement, live performance experience, and a growing collection of original songs has helped Brooklyn develop her own identity as a musician.
At just 14, she has already accomplished milestones that many aspiring artists spend years working toward. Her appearance on The Voice has introduced her to an even wider audience, giving her a new platform to share her music and develop her career.
With original songs already released, more music in the works, and a growing list of live performances behind her, Brooklyn Marie is only getting started. Her journey on Team Kelly is another chapter in a musical story that began when she was barely old enough to talk.
