Anthony Boyle Admits He “Looked Totally Mad” While Filming House of Guinness

House of Guinness is available on Netflix and the historical drama chronicles the true story of the Guinness siblings as they carry on their father’s legacy following his passing.

Peaky Blinders mastermind Steven Knight is the creative force behind the acclaimed series, which features Anthony Boyle as Arthur Guinness and Louis Partridge as Edward Guinness.

Whilst certain characters draw inspiration from genuine historical personalities, others were invented specifically for the programme, including James Norton’s Sean Rafferty.

Anthony Boyle revealed he relished adding his personal interpretation to the authentic Arthur Guinness, and after a screening of the series, he discussed his transformation for the part.

He cultivated Arthur’s distinctive moustache naturally, though confessed it attracted peculiar stares from the general public.

The actor revealed: “When I had that moustache when I was in normal people clothes, like an Adidas tracksuit, I just looked like an out of work magician.

“I’d be cutting about Liverpool or Manchester and you’ll be going to yourself, ‘Jesus Christ I hope this moustache looks alright’.

“Then you’ll have so many people looking at you going ‘You look f****** mental’. Like I was going to be playing the Pringles man in a biopic. It looks a bit mad, to be fair.”

Speaking exclusively to Reach titles ahead of the screening, he disclosed it required more than two months to cultivate the facial hair.

He joked: “It took two-and-a-half months of pure concentration. Two-and-a-half months of just looking at myself in the mirror, looking at photos of Tom Selleck and other moustachioed men and it came out.”

Viewers are eagerly awaiting news on whether the programme will continue for a second series following the dramatic cliffhanger finale, with Steven Knight providing a thrilling update after the screening.

When asked about prospects for a second series, he declared: “Yes, of course. We are going to do season two, and three, and four.

“Yes absolutely, we are going to do this all the way to the 1960s.”

He continued: “I think what we have got with this show is something that is spectacularly successful in the way that it’s executed.”
