Viola Davis’ long-awaited Peacemaker spinoff Waller may be facing its biggest setback yet, with the DC series reportedly no longer in active development.
The project was first announced in 2023 as part of DC Studios co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran’s ambitious “Chapter One: Gods and Monsters” slate. The series was expected to put Davis’ Amanda Waller at the center of her own story, expanding on the ruthless government operative she has played across the DC universe.

Now, however, the future of Waller appears increasingly uncertain.
According to a report from The Ankler, the series is no longer actively being developed as DC Studios reportedly shifts more attention toward theatrical projects. The development follows comments made earlier this year by HBO boss Casey Bloys, who was asked in a March 2026 interview with Variety whether Waller was moving toward production.
Bloys offered a notably cautious response, saying, “I wouldn’t say it’s on the runway.”
That statement has only fueled speculation that the project could ultimately be abandoned.
Waller was originally envisioned as a follow-up to the events of Peacemaker Season 1. The story would have explored the consequences after Amanda Waller’s controversial actions and secrets were exposed, potentially placing the character in an increasingly difficult position within the DC universe.
Davis’ Waller has been one of the more consistent characters across the franchise’s recent iterations. Although she has no superpowers, the character relies on intelligence, political influence and an intimidating willingness to sacrifice almost anyone to accomplish her goals.
The proposed series would have given Davis the opportunity to explore that character on a much larger scale.
The uncertainty surrounding Waller also reflects the broader evolution of Gunn and Safran’s DCU. When the pair unveiled “Chapter One: Gods and Monsters” in 2023, the plan was to create a connected universe spanning movies, television, animation and video games, with characters and actors crossing between different formats.

The slate initially included projects such as Creature Commandos, Superman, Supergirl, Clayface and Lanterns, alongside Waller. Gunn previously emphasized the importance of creating consistency between DC projects and building a single interconnected story.
Since then, however, the franchise has continued to evolve, with theatrical releases becoming an increasingly important priority.
For fans, the biggest question is whether Waller has been permanently canceled or simply placed on hold. There has been no official announcement confirming that the series has been scrapped, meaning Davis could potentially return if DC Studios decides to revive the project in the future.
For now, though, Amanda Waller remains in limbo.
