For nearly three decades, Practical Magic has remained one of Hollywood’s most beloved fantasy romances, blending sisterhood, romance, and witchcraft into a cult classic. Now, Warner Bros. is bringing audiences back to the magical world of the Owens family with Practical Magic 2, a sequel that reunites Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman while introducing a new generation determined to break the family’s deadly curse.

Set almost 30 years after the original film, the sequel follows sisters Sally Owens (Sandra Bullock) and Gillian Owens (Nicole Kidman) as they face another supernatural crisis—this time involving Sally’s daughters, Kylie and Antonia. Inspired by Alice Hoffman’s novel The Book of Magic, the story shifts its focus toward the next generation while honoring the legacy of the original characters.
At the center of the story is Kylie Owens, now portrayed by Joey King. Unlike the child audiences met in the 1998 film, Kylie has grown into a young woman determined to end the Owens family’s centuries-old curse, which condemns every man loved by an Owens woman to an untimely death. Her determination is fueled by a new romance, but her quest quickly spirals into danger, forcing Sally and Gillian to rescue her before the curse claims another victim.

The sequel also marks several major cast changes. Evan Rachel Wood, who played young Kylie in the original movie, does not return. The actress later revealed that she had expressed interest in reprising the role but was informed that the filmmakers had decided to recast the character. Joey King now takes over as the adult Kylie, while Maisie Williams joins the franchise as Antonia Owens, replacing Alexandra Artrip.
One of the biggest surprises for longtime fans is the absence of Gary Hallet, Sally’s love interest from the first film. Although the original ended with the couple seemingly escaping the family curse, Sandra Bullock confirmed that Gary has died before the events of the sequel, proving that the Owens curse remained impossible to outrun.
A new chapter also brings a new romantic possibility. Lee Pace joins the cast as a mysterious scholar of magic who helps Sally unlock powerful new abilities while assisting the family in saving Kylie. His character is expected to play a pivotal role in both the supernatural mystery and Sally’s emotional journey, hinting that love may once again find its way into her life.
Returning alongside Bullock and Kidman are Dianne Wiest and Stockard Channing as the eccentric Aunt Jet and Aunt Franny, whose magical guidance once again becomes essential as the Owens women confront their family’s darkest legacy.

With familiar faces, new relationships, and higher emotional stakes, Practical Magic 2 promises to blend romance, fantasy, and family drama while exploring whether destiny can finally be rewritten. The long-awaited sequel arrives exclusively in theaters on September 18, 2026.
