Jenni “JWoww” Farley expected to spend her children’s first day back at school celebrating at home. Instead, the Jersey Shore: Family Vacation star found herself marking the milestone from a hospital room after a difficult week dealing with a serious kidney infection and appendicitis.
Despite the unexpected circumstances, Farley and her family found a way to make sure the special moment was not lost.

A First Day of School Unlike Any Other
In an Instagram post shared on September 3, Farley appeared in a hospital gown alongside her children, Meilani Alexandra and Greyson Valor Mathews.
The reality star explained that it was not the traditional first-day-of-school photo she had hoped to share, but she was grateful that the family was still able to create a memory together.
Farley revealed that she had spent the past week in the hospital while battling what she described as a “horrible” kidney infection and appendicitis.
According to Farley, however, the health scare did not feel entirely sudden. She said she had been feeling unlike herself for months, experiencing weight loss, exhaustion and a general sense that something was wrong before her body finally reached a breaking point last Friday.
Throughout her recovery, Farley said her main goal was to get healthy enough to return home to her family.
Her Family Brings the School Morning to the Hospital

The TV personality also expressed her gratitude to the hospital staff who helped care for her and made it possible for her to share part of the milestone with her children.
Farley was especially determined to maintain one important first-day tradition: doing her daughter’s hair.
Since she could not leave the hospital, the family adjusted their plans instead.
Her partner, Zack Clayton, brought the children to the hospital early in the morning so they could all be together before school. Rather than posing in front of their home, the family marked the occasion surrounded by hospital bracelets, backpacks and hair supplies.
The morning was far from what Farley had originally imagined, but it became a memory she said the family would likely never forget.
Watching her children prepare for school also gave the reality star a new perspective on the challenges many families may be facing behind the scenes.
A Message About Kindness
Farley acknowledged that her hospitalization is temporary, while other families may be entering the new school year after life-changing experiences.
She encouraged parents and children to remember that some students may be carrying struggles that are not immediately visible, including grief, illness within the family, divorce, financial difficulties or other personal challenges.
Farley urged children to be kind, pay attention to classmates who may be sitting alone and avoid judging others based on their appearance or what they may or may not share publicly.
For the reality star, this year’s first-day-of-school picture may not have looked the way she originally expected.
But it was still a picture she was grateful to have.
Farley did not reveal when she expects to leave the hospital. However, she said she has spent the past week focusing on recovering and becoming well enough to return home to her family.
