YouTuber Connor Franta has acknowledged recent speculation surrounding a past relationship with Troye Sivan (and somehow involving Chappell Roan), including a sweet message ‘for him’.

If there’s one thing we know to be true, it’s this: Where there are gay people, there is also Chappell Roan.

Millennial queer people with access to the internet in 2014 recently had their worlds rocked by the sudden resurgence and apparent confirmation (via Chappell Roan) of a popular fan theory that Connor Franta and pop prince Troye Sivan did indeed date during the heyday of their YouTube careers.

Speaking to the host of Obsessed with Brooke Averick, Franta referred to discovering Roan in 2014 with his “boyfriend at the time”.

Then YouTuber Sivan, who was rumoured to have been in a relationship with Franta around a decade ago, also discovered Roan during her career’s infancy, similarly posting to Twitter (when it was Twitter) in 2014.

Things then got wilder for the last remaining ‘Tronner’ shippers, when Sivan posted a picture of himself and Roan in an Instagram post earlier this month. Fans later realised he had cropped Franta out, after the latter posted the same photo with Sivan cropped out – seemingly ‘confirming‘ the pair had been boyfriends.

Sivan later clarified in a comment, “FYI I found that pic online doing my weekly Google of ‘Troye Sivan and Chappell Roan’, not my crop!”

Franta captioned his pic with Roan “my good side” in an apparent reference to the Troye Sivan breakup song “The Good Side,” from his 2018 album Bloom – which fans had long theorised being about Franta.

With all of that context under our belts, Franta has now addressed Chappell Roan’s involuntary position in the middle of the twink civil war, as well as the Troye Sivan relationship as a whole, clarifying that he harbours no bad blood towards the pop star – and wishing him well.

The video, which is only five minutes long and also titled “my good side”, is a simple sit down from Franta, and kicks off with him saying: “What in the 2014 is going on? I’m just as baffled as all of you are.”

Franta continued: “Occasionally, I kind of get thrown back into the zeitgeist, and it’s just as confusing for me as it is for you.”

“People still care,” the 32-year-old acknowledged. “Not only about me, but about a relationship I had for two years.”

Happily, as confirmed by Franta, “There is no drama. There is no tea,” between the pair. “There is no bad blood between my former boyfriend and myself.”

The former boyfriend, it seems, was Sivan – confirmed so by Franta referencing “the song” (“The Good Side”), and adding, “What I have to say about 2014, and that era, is that I still feel very fortunate that I had no bad blood with anyone.”

He did add of the 2018 hit: “The f**king horrible thing about that song, is that he was right, but he was also completely wrong. I think he got the good side of things emotionally, but a song like that neglects the idea that people are individuals and everyone chooses their own path in life.”

Franta then jokingly apologised to “The Subway” singer Chappell Roan for getting caught in the middle of things: “Obsessed with the fact that Chappell Roan was dragged into this twink issue unwarranted, unsolicited, solidarity for my girl.”

And in the final blow for internet citizens of 2014, Franta wrapped up the video by addressing Sivan directly, saying: “The final words I have are actually for him, so if you happen to be watching this, I just want to let you know that I’m proud of you, too. For every single thing that you’ve done.”

And that is the sound of thousands of Tronner shippers screaming: “Vindication” from the rooftops.
