Prince Harry and Meghan Markle may reportedly be welcomed back as working royals following their reunion with King Charles. However, Prince William is said to be firmly against the idea. The Sussexes stepped down from their senior working royal duties in 2020 and later moved to Montecito, California. Now, following the much-awaited reunion between the Sussexes and Charles, reports suggest they could find their way back into the royal fold as working members.

Prince William is against Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s deal with King Charles, per source

Prince William is reportedly against Meghan Markle and Prince Harry striking a new deal with King Charles. In 2020, Markle and Harry proposed a “half-in, half-out” hybrid royal role. Under the proposal, they would have continued representing the Crown and carrying out official duties on behalf of the monarch while also earning a private income through independent ventures.

The arrangement would have allowed them to split their time between the UK and the US. However, the late Queen Elizabeth II reportedly rejected the proposal. The couple eventually stepped down from their senior working royal roles the same year and moved to Montecito.

Both Harry and Markle went on to build their independent careers. They pursued corporate media contracts, publishing projects, and philanthropic initiatives. The Duchess of Sussex also launched her lifestyle brand, As Ever, in 2025.

Amid this, reports began circulating that Harry wanted to rebuild his relationship with Charles after publicly airing grievances against the royal family. The long-awaited reunion finally took place this year when Charles met Harry, Markle, and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

A source told RadarOnline, “There is understandable caution within palace circles because any improvement in family relations inevitably fuels speculation about what the future might look like. The priority is maintaining clear expectations about everyone’s role.”

According to the report, the possibility of Harry and Markle being welcomed back as working royals has created “huge tension” within the Palace. The insider claimed that the couple hope to return to the royal fold and could potentially reach an agreement with Charles. However, the source added that William is strongly opposed to the idea. He does not want them returning as working members of the royal family.
