Outlander’s Tobias Menzies caught moving in with legendary The crown co-star

Tobias Menzies wife: Is Outlander star Tobias Menzies married?

Outlander first hit screens back in 2014 and followed 20th century time traveller Claire Randall (played by Caitriona Balfe) who ended up falling through time and ending up in the 18th century. Claire was desperately trying to get back to her husband Frank Randall (Tobias Menzies) in her own era. However, she was left shocked when she encountered her husband’s doppelgänger and Frank’s ancestor Captain Jonathan “Black Jack” Randall in the past.

Is Outlander star Tobias Menzies married?

Captain Black Jack was a psychotic sadist, who tried to rape Claire after initially meeting her but thankfully she was saved by Murtagh Fitzgibbons (Duncan Lacroix).

However, she had many dealings with Captain Black Jack over the years due to his obsession with her second husband Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan).

While Claire was stuck in the past, Oxford University history professor Frank desperately tried to find his missing wife in Inverness.

Black Jack was eventually killed at the Battle of Culloden in Outlander season three, while Claire tried to live unhappily married to Frank after returning to the future.

Sadly, Frank, too, ended up dying tragically and his demise led Claire to journey through the stones back to Jamie after a 20-year absence.

During his time on Outlander, actor Menzies was a big presence thanks to his dual role as these two opposing and intriguing characters.

Although he has now left Outlander, he made a small return in season four as part of a flashback and was present when Brianna Fraser (Sophie Skelton) went through the stones to be reunited with her mother and biological father.

Despite no longer being part of Outlander, some fans are still curious to know about the actor’s personal life.

Sadly, Menzies is notoriously private about his life away from the cameras.

He was previously linked to Oscar-nominated actress Kristin Scott Thomas.

But there appears to be no information on whether the star is married or who he is dating now.

Since starring in Outlander, Menzies has found fame in many other roles including Game of Thrones and Doctor Who.

Most recently, he starred in Netflix series The Crown, taking over from Matt Smith as an older version of Prince Philip.

In an interview with The Sunday Times Magazine in 2019, Menzies revealed he was temporarily living with his Crown co-star Helena Bonham-Carter while his Victorian terrace house was getting renovated,

He told the publication at the time: “I’ve got an architect for the first time and I want to go for graceful, subtle architecture.”

He’s also had parts in AMC’s The Terror, This Way Up, BBC’s The Night Manager and The Honourable Woman.

The cast of The Crown wrapped on season four earlier this year, shortly before the government enforced a nationwide lockdown.

Speaking about completing filming so close to the wire, Menzies told Deadline: “Olivia and I finished on the same day, so they gave us a round of applause and a general whoop whoop.

“But in a way, they also had a bunch to shoot, so it was temporary and we also knew that we had a wrap to say goodbye.

“Maybe that was dumb on our parts because this was February, when it was looming. But still, no part of me imagined where we were headed.”

He will now be leaving the role as a new actor takes on the part albeit as an older incarnation of the Duke of Edinburgh.

Reflecting on bidding farewell to the role, Menzies said: “It’s been a really interesting character to explore.

“I will definitely miss the job. It’s also exciting to move on and see what’s next.

“One of the good things about this enforced slowdown is a bit more time to watch the films and catch-up on stuff I had not seen, and have a think about what one wants to do next.”
