The Outlander author shared her thoughts on the new footage
Outlander creator Diana Gabaldon has weighed in on the theories surrounding the mysterious voice in the season eight teaser trailer, which came out recently, and has caused much speculation.
After sharing the season eight teaser on her Facebook page, many audience members weighed in about the mysterious voice at the end who said “Mrs Fraser”.
One fan predicted: “Claire is seeing Brianna and Roger and the children. The English voice has nothing to do with this scene.
“It was an editing choice and doesn’t fit the scene at all and once again done to cause drama and speculation. Which is exactly what is happening!”
Gabaldon simply gave a three-word answer underneath: “You got it.”
She responded to another fan, who had written: “Oh my. I’m anxious for this season to unfold and yet afraid of where they are going with it.
“I have loved watching this series but I love the books more and hope their ending stays true to the intent of books. I hope they don’t make up things to fit their narrative from BOMB. Leary of whose voice that is at the end of this clip.”
Gabaldon told the fan: “That voice hasn’t got anything to do with the clip—it’s just stuck in as a teaser. (Or so I think…).
“As for Season 8 , it’s coming primarily from Book 9, GO TELL THE BEES THAT I AM GONE.
Many viewers believed the voice to be that of Claire Fraser’s (played by Caitríona Balfe) father Henry Beauchamp (Jeremy Irvine).
Others believe it to be William Ransom (Charles Vandervaart) or Lord John Grey (David Berry).
Some also believed that the moment was actually the “hello, the house” moment in the Outlander novels when Roger MacKenzie (Richard Rankin) says this after they return to the past and Fraser’s Ridge.
However, Gabaldon’s insight suggests that these theories might not be right after all and it’s just a touch of clever editing.
Along with using material from Gabaldon’s ninth novel, the show will be diverging from the books with an alternate universe imagining what would have happened if Faith Fraser had been saved by Master Raymond (Dominique Pinon).
The eighth season will be the last and tie up all the loose ends in the show.
Actress Sophie Skelton previously said she and co-star Balfe went through various stages of grief while shooting the final outing.
