Fans Fear June’s Fate Is Sealed After Chilling Clue in The Handmaid’s Tale

The Handmaid’s Tale fans have been left on edge after catching a glimpse of the sixth and final series’ thrilling new teaser, with many fearing for the fate of June Osborne (portrayed by Elisabeth Moss). The gripping new trailer reveals a disguised June trading her iconic handmaid red for Martha’s attire as she reflects on the evolution of their garb: from subservience to symbolizing rage and heralding revenge. The fleeting cuts tantalize viewers with displays of unrest; handmaids advancing into conflict, an Aunt in combat, Luke (played by O-T Fagbenle) brandishing a firearm, and notably, the harrowing sight of a handmaid being led to a gallows.

Fans took to social media, probing the fate of the protagonist, with one querying, “Is it June getting executed?” Speculations ran wild on Reddit, where a user dissected the trailer: “There’s a part in the trailer where June is definitely back in Gilead as a handmaid and she looks like she is on stage about to be hung in front of a crowd(I think people of NB). I believe she will be saved before she is hung bc the crowd starts attacking Gilead folks. I think during this attack, Luke will likely be killed.”

Another viewer predicted a tragic turn with long-term implications: “It will be sad, but I definitely think June will be killed in front of Hannah/Agnes, the foreshadowing has been there since season 1. But this will spark something in Hannah/Agnes leading into the new The Testaments series.”

Elisabeth Moss has excitedly revealed to fans that the upcoming spin-off series The Testaments will seamlessly continue from where The Handmaid’s Tale concludes, sparking speculation that June’s potential demise could be a turning point for Hannah’s fate in Gilead.

Yet, if ‘The Testaments’ stays loyal to its literary roots, followers of Margaret Atwood’s work will know June survives. Whether the Hulu adaptation will mirror the book’s narrative is yet to unfold.

In addition, Elisabeth has spilled details on what to anticipate regarding the complex love triangle involving Nick, June, and Luke. In a conversation with Deadline, she divulged: “I do not think she wants a blended family with Luke and Nick. I don’t think she wants them in the same room.”

She continued, highlighting June’s enduring affection for Luke and the need for their relationship to heal: “She also loves Luke, and there is so much there that is beautiful and but they need to rebuild their relationship, Luke and June, and they do.”

Elisabeth teased further about the season’s developments: “I think this season, I do think there’s a lot of rebuilding that happens. Undeniably, though, she’s never going to be able to forget Nick, and she’s never going to be able to not love him, and that makes good television.”

Wrapping up her insights, Elisabeth quipped: “I mean, if she just was able to be like, ‘I’m so sorry. I feel like we’re not in a good place, and we should move on,’ and be really healthy about it, that’d be super boring.”
