We already know that Prince William and Kate Middleton got moved up the chain of royal hierarchy when Charles became king, but apparently—and this was honestly news to me—being Prince and Princess of Wales comes with its own new set of royal duties and obligations. And, naturally, they are rising to the challenge admirably.
Royal biographer Katie Nicholl told People that Kate and William have taken to their new roles like they were born to it (which, in William’s case, he was). “William’s years of being mentored by his grandmother and his father have really paid off because the transition to Prince of Wales has been seamless,” Nicholl remarked. “Kate has also effortlessly moved into a role with so much weight and history and is already making it her own.” Camilla Parker-Bowles was technically a Princess of Wales, but apparently the title was so closely associated with Princess Diana that she went by Duchess of Cornwall instead, according to Town & Country.
One example of how Kate and William have stepped up to the plate, in Nicholl’s opinion, was their early trip to the country of Wales. “Making their first visit to Wales was a significant move, and we saw them very warmly welcomed,” she noted. “He and Kate want to forge a close relationship with Wales and its people, and they put that into action immediately. I think that’s quite telling about who they are and the image of royalty they want to project.”
Of course, it’s hardly the first time that Prince William and Kate Middleton have been praised for their aptitude for the business of being royal. Proud of those two scrappers.
