Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean addressed their future on Dancing on Ice after announcing their decision to retire from performing together.

During Tuesday’s instalment of Good Morning Britain (March 4), the Olympic gold medallists disclosed to Ed Balls and Susanna Reid that one of their final performances will take place during Sunday’s grand finale.

When queried by Susanna, 54, about their partnership ending for good, Jayne, 67, declared: “The final on Sunday will be our last performance on Dancing on Ice. Then we go on tour and they will be our last performances, we end in Nottingham on July 12.”

Christopher, 66, confirmed their departure from the ice following Sunday’s final, which will see Anton Ferdinand, Michaela Strachan and Sam Aston battle it out to walk away as the champion.

Discussing the impact their absence might have on the show, the broadcaster probed: “What’s happening with Dancing on Ice? Because without you performing, that’s a big backbone of Dancing on Ice, isn’t it?”.

Confirming their future, Christopher responded: “If Dancing on Ice continues, we’ll just come back as judges, but really, it is time for us. It’s 50 years of skating together and it takes its toll on the body.”

Acknowledging the discipline it takes, he added: “You have to be very disciplined every day, looking after yourself nutrition wise and health wise, I guess we’re ready for a bit of a break.”

The physical demands at their ages were highlighted by Susanna as she said: “To be able to be that physical at your age, does require a lot of work.”

The stars concurred, with Christopher admitting the increasing difficulty with age.

He remarked: “That’s why we felt that we’re still in a shape that we can still do it, but it’s limited time that we can continue to do it. 50 years is a great number to say we’ve been skating together, I don’t think there are many partnerships that can say they’ve been together for 50 years.”

This weekend, ITV audiences will witness either Anton, Michaela or Sam clinch victory on the show following TOWIE star Dan Edgar’s exit.

Rumours have been circulating that this series of Dancing on Ice could be the last due to its dramatic decline in viewership.

Dancing on Ice originally aired from 2006 until 2014 before taking a four-year hiatus. The programme has been running since its return in 2018, but it’s unclear whether a new series will air in 2026.

An ITV representative said: “The Dancing on Ice team is fully concentrating on the much anticipated series finale this coming Sunday and therefore no decision has been made.”
