Beyond the Peach Timothée Chalamet’s Breakout in “Call Me By Your Name” A Star is Born and a Love Story Captivates.

Get ready to hear Timothée Chalamet’s wonderful French name everywhere.

The 21-year-old is the breakout star of Call Me By Your Name — a love story about a young man who falls in love with an older grad student (Armie Hammer) during a summer in Italy.

Chalamet has been gaining critical acclaim and awards buzz for his tender portrayal of a lovelorn teen, and already has a slate of follow-up movies lined up.

Here’s what you need to know about the breakout star.

1. You’ve definitely seen him before

The young actor already has enough credits to fill his IMDb page. His first appearance on screen was in a 2009 Law & Order episode, but he gained recognition for his role in Homeland in 2012.

Chalamet went on to make his big screen debut in Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar as Matthew McConaughey’s son. He had a number of roles in smaller movies before starring in four in 2017.

Aside from Call Me By Your Name, Chalamet is also gaining critical acclaim for his small role in Greta Gerwig’s Lady Bird opposite Saoirse Ronan.

2. And he’s about to be everywhere

Chalamet just wrapped up filming the latest Woody Allen movie as Selena Gomez’s love interest. The two were spotted locking lips for a rain-soaked scene during the summer. He was later seen filming with Elle Fanning around the city.

Chalamet also just wrapped filming Beautiful Boy with Steve Carrell and next appears in Hostiles opposite Christian Bale, making for another busy year in 2018.

3. He left college after a year because it didn’t compare to working with Matthew McConaughey

It’s hard to go back to the life of a teenager after working with your idols. In a chat for Interview magazine, Chalamet told McConaughey he dropped out of college his first year because it was drab compared to working on Interstellar.

“Columbia takes a wholehearted academic commitment that I think I have in me, but it was just not where my mind was at the time,” Chalamet said. “I’d just left working a month and a half in Canada with my favorite director and you, one of my favorite actors, and had to go back into a structured environment. It was just hard.”

4. He speaks French — and learned how to speak Italian for Call Me By Your Name

Having a French father, Chalamet was already bilingual when before heading off to Italy to shoot the drama. But he had to pick up the local language to fully get into character.

“We got to be in Italy for three months learning Italian and learning the piano and the guitar,” Chalamet said in the Interview chat. “I already knew how to speak French…But I picked up the Italian, too.”

And Chalamet is familiar with showbiz. His mother was a Broadway dancer, his sister Pauline is an actress living in Paris, his aunt is television producer and writer Amy Lippman, and his grandfather is screenwriter Harold Flender.

5. He dated Madonna’s daughter Lourdes in high school

Chalamet is no stranger to the material life. The then-17-year-old dated Madonna’s oldest daughter Lourdes while they were both attending La Guardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts back in 2013. The teenagers were often spotted about town that year and were even seen kissing at an after party for Madonna’s EPIX documentary.
