He’s one of the nation’s most recognisable voices, but Scott Mills is now facing a major crisis. The radio DJ has been sacked by the BBC following allegations about his “personal conduct”, plunging his decades-long career into peril.
Just hours after the axe was confirmed yesterday, it emerged that the broadcaster’s decision to cut ties with Mills relates to a 2016 police investigation into “serious sexual offences” against a teenage boy.
He was questioned by police under caution but the case was dropped because of a lack of evidence. However the Mirror understands the sacking relates to this individual.
The Mirror can reveal the BBC was forced to sack the star after receiving compelling new information. Bosses were left with “no choice” after being passed fresh details about the Radio 2 star’s alleged conduct.
The Radio 2 Breakfast host is yet to speak out about the allegations, with friends even reportedly struggling to get into contact following the shocking announcement.

The BBC newsroom is said to have been filled with gasps of shock when the news broke. It is believed that Scott was taken off air last Tuesday – and his contract officially terminated at the weekend.
One person Mills will be leaning on during his tumultuous exit is his husband Sam Vaughan. The couple have been together since 2017 after first meeting two years earlier at a radio event in Wales.
Just two months before they tied the knot in June 2024, Mills and Sam, a freelance audio producer sixteen years his junior, wrapped filming for Celebrity Race Across The World – a challenge the radio star described as the ‘ultimate test of our relationship’.
The pair said that they wanted the show to ‘make us stronger’ so they could weather any storm. Now, they could be facing an even harder test.
Explaining his decision to take part in the hit series, Mills said: “Before we get married, everyone says the holiday test is you know you could be with somebody if you go on holiday with them. This is like that times a thousand. Not that I have any doubts that Sam is the one for me, but there will be times in this, I imagine, when it will get stressful
“And I think I’m expecting it, I don’t know, but I’m expecting it to be big highs and probably big lows. So, if we can get through this, we can get through anything basically. I have no doubt that we will but that’s part of the reason why I wanted to do it. I also really just want to throw my phone away for a bit. I wouldn’t be able to get to do this again.”
And Sam added: “Obviously, we get married this year so for us, it’s the year of big challenges: this, marriage. So, it’s just kind of like doing it all at once and getting it all done.
“Even if we don’t win, and we get to that finish line, at least we’ve got to that finish line together. And the decisions that we’ve made are together. So, I think in the year that we’re getting married, and doing this challenge, it’s just to cement us as a relationship even stronger. Hopefully.”
The couple managed the pressure and then some as they came out as winners in the 2024 series. Their wedding came just before Mills took on his dream job of hosting Radio 2’s primetime breakfast slot, replacing Zoe Ball to take on the top gig.
At the time, he said in an interview that he was at just the right point in his life to be hosting a breakfast show. He told the Mirror: “I had such a mad year last year, it was the best year of my life. I’m honestly the happiest I’ve ever been in my life.”
The couple wed in a beautiful ceremony at Xalet Del Nin in Sitges, Spain. Scott’s close friend and former co-host Chris Stark performed Master of Ceremony duties and watched on as the newlyweds posed for photos in front of a rainbow-coloured canons.
During their wedding ceremony singer Pixie Lott sang How Long Will I Love You, while guests at the after party were treated to a show by Eurovision star Sam Ryder. Other famous faces at their nuptials included Calvin Harris, Scott’s predecessor Zoe Ball, Jordan North and Rylan Clark.
