Sam Heughan has shared a string of snaps featuring him topless and bloodied as he promised Outlander fans there is “more to look forward to” now that the filming has wrapped on the final season of the popular Starz drama.

Fans have been left feeling emotional as they await the second half of season seven and prepare to say goodbye to the beloved characters. The cast and crew have been busy in Scotland filming the eighth and final season.

The show, based on Diana Gabaldon’s bestselling novels, is expected to have fans reaching for tissues as they bid farewell to Claire and Jamie Fraser. To mark the beginning of the end, Sam Heughan, the lead actor in the series, shared a series of photos commemorating his time as Highlander hunk Jamie, writing, “What a journey. So many memories, incredible people I have been fortunate to work with and now can call friends. So many people to thank.”

In the photo reel, Heughan shows his muscles as he sits in the dressing room between takes, scattily clad with a robe draped over him. He appears with fake blood spattered on his face and clothes, another making a rude gesture to the camera, and many others with cast and crew as he reflected on over a decade on the small screen.

Caitriona Balfe, who might have had a completely different relationship with Jonathan ‘Black Jack’ Randall, portrayed by Tobias Menzies, according to one fan theory, also appears in many of the images.

One fan replied to Sam: “Crying over here. The best book series turned TV series! Thank you for an incredible 10 years! Simply the best!” Another said: “Seeing BTS pics from all the seasons is actually so bittersweet”.

A third cried: “WHAT DO YOU MEAN THAT’S A WRAP I’M NOT READY,” while another follower responded: “I have never and never will again love a series, its characters and cast like I’ve loved Outlander.”

Luckily, the saga isn’t quite over, as Outlander will be followed up with a new prequel, Blood of My Blood.
