Armie Hammer has revealed that computer trickery had to be employed in romantic drama and awards season favourite Call Me By Your Name to edit out his testicles because his shorts were too short on set.
The actor told US radio broadcaster SiriusXM: “There were a few times where they had to go back and digitally remove my balls from the movie.
“They were short shorts. What’re you gonna do?”
Call Me By Your Name is an adaptation of the acclaimed novel by André Aciman about two young men falling in love on the Italian Riviera. It stars Hammer as 24-year-old scholar Oliver and Timothée Chalamet as 17-year-old Elio.
As it was set in the 1980s, short shorts were a must. But as director Luca Guadagnino explained Hammer’s wardrobe malfunction wasn’t entirely the fault of his snazzy garment.
He told interviewer Andy Cohen “It’s both things,” to which interviewer Cohen replied: “Short shorts and big balls is what you’re saying.”
Hammer appeared very embarrassed by the story going public but took it in good humour.
Call Me By Your Name has picked up some serious awards season buzz since its release, with critics praising it as one of the best films of the year. This week, the film won Best Feature at the Gotham Awards, a good indication that Golden Globes and Oscar nominations will follow.
Previous big winners at the awards show include the past three Best Picture Academy Award winners: Moonlight, Spotlight and Birdman.
