Outlander’s Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe have completed their final scenes as Jamie and Claire Fraser for the upcoming eighth and concluding season of the popular historical drama.
Although a release date is yet to be announced, the epic tale is anticipated to conclude sometime in 2025 or 2026.
In the meantime, the stars are relishing their newfound freedom, as disclosed in Heughan’s recent visit to The Kelly Clarkson Show.
The adored Scottish actor stopped by the show to promote the US release of his latest project outside of Outlander, Channel 4’s erotic thriller The Couple Next Door, now available on Starz.
During the conversation, Kelly asked about his experiences since the final wrap was called for the historical fantasy series’ last run. “It’s been a long part of my life,” he openly admitted.
“So, yeah, I mean, it’s sort of bittersweet, right?”
Kelly then revealed she had heard Heughan did something “big” to commemorate the end of filming. “We had wrap parties and everything,” he confirmed.
“But, actually I went to Nepal”, reports the Daily Record.
“I’d always wanted to go see Everest, so I went out there with a friend of mine, Jake Norton, who’s this mountaineer.”
Heughan then made a surprising revelation; he and Norton were the first people to ever hike along a certain part of the Himalayas. “We hiked for two weeks along the Hunku Khola valley,” he disclosed.
“And we were the first people ever to do that. So we had this amazing ceremony…”
Kelly was left stunned and gasped: “OK, Lewis and Clark! Like, wow! I didn’t even know that those adventures were still available.”
Heughan responded: “There’s so much of Nepal, so many peaks that have never been climbed, that don’t even have names.”
He elaborated on his experiences: “We went there, to this small village,” and as images from his adventures appeared on screen, he added, “They blessed us and we then walked for two weeks and camping in this bamboo forest.
“And then up into the alpine and then, as you can see, we got up to the Amphu Laptsa pass, which is like 20,000 feet, and then had to rappel several thousand feet down into the Khumbu valley. So it was pretty crazy, but a lot of fun.”
Kelly then laughed: “You’ve worked your whole way up and then you’ve gotta go all the way down.”
To this, Heughan acknowledged: “That’s the worst part, right? You’re like, ‘Oh, this is amazing, and I’ve worked so hard to get here. Oh God, now I’ve gotta get back down again’.”
With Heughan regularly updating his Instagram followers about his escapades, fans of the Outlander star can look forward to more thrilling updates now that he has waved farewell to Jamie.
