In eight episodes, Netflix’s hit dramedy Boots follows several U.S. Marine Corps trainees as they strive to transform themselves and earn their place in the Corps. Season 1 concludes with many of them graduating, and the real challenge begins. The final episode sets up an open ending that could serve as a series finale or the perfect springboard for a second season. While celebrating his massive achievement with his fellow graduates, Cameron (Miles Heizer) is drawn to a news bulletin announcing the start of the Gulf War. The episode ends with him and his best friend, Ray (Liam Oh), watching the early days of the Middle Eastern conflict that involved American troops. Collider’s Maggie Lovitt recently caught up with series creator Andy Parker and inquired where the show’s team aims to take the story in a potential second season.
“I can’t say too much right now except that we’re very hopeful that we do get a Season 2. I can’t speak to character or plot or anything, but I can just say that the questions that we’re raising in Season 1, I think, we’ll only need to deepen in Season 2,” Parker said when asked about the seeds planted in Season 1 that could blossom in Season 2. He could not confirm the exact direction the show would take or if there would be new characters. However, Boots would continue exploring the lives of its main characters and what being a Marine means to them after boot camp. Parker explained:
“So, we meet all of these guys, including Cameron, and every single one of them has something in boot camp that’s going to be revealed, challenged, confronted, contended with. They’re still in process, right? They’ve achieved something. They’re all Marines now. Well, most of them, anyway. But now the question is, ‘You earned this thing. Now what? Now that you have to go be a Marine, and not just a Marine in peacetime, but a Marine, perhaps, in wartime, what does that look like? What does that mean?’ I think there’s still more to excavate from each one of these guys.”
Has ‘Boots’ Been Renewed for Season 2?

While Netflix has not yet decided on the show’s future, there are encouraging signs in that regard, given the show’s massive popularity on social media and strong viewership on Netflix. A few days after its release, the dramedy shot to number one on Netflix’s top ten chart and has remained there for three weeks now. Official reports from the streaming platform reveal that the series saw even more popularity in Week 2, doubling its debut-week views. A report released before the series premiered revealed that Netflix had extended the contracts of some cast members, a vote of confidence in the show.
