Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have happily made their own Christmas traditions since leaving the royal family
Prince Harry was under pressure to find a standout Christmas gift for his wife, Meghan Markle. The Duke of Sussex has previously admitted that Meghan is amazing at giving presents, recalling a particularly memorable one from four years ago – which he ultimately threw away.
It was the couple’s first festive season since they stepped down from royal duties and relocated to the US with their one-year-old son, Archie. Their daughter, Lilibet, arrived the following year.
In his tell-all book ‘Spare,’ Harry shared that Meghan gave him something to remind him of home. Reminiscing, Harry wrote that Meghan found a Christmas tree bauble adorned with the Queen’s image in a local store and “thought he would like it.”
Harry revealed he “roared” with laughter upon opening it and promptly hung it on the tree at son Archie’s eye level. Unfortunately, this led to the ornament’s demise as Archie got his hands on it and accidentally broke the joke decor. Harry reflected on the incident: “I grabbed a dustpan and swept the pieces, all the while thinking: This is weird!”

The prince once revealed that his late grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, was also very considerate when giving gifts. He shared with James Corden on his talk show: “My grandmother asked us what Archie wanted for Christmas, and Meg said a waffle maker. So, she sent us a waffle maker for Archie,”.
“Meg makes up a beautiful organic mix in the waffle maker, flip it, out it comes – [Archie] loves it, and now I have waffles for breakfast, a bit of yogurt, a bit of jam on top,” Harry said.
Harry and Meghan are currently living in Santa Barbara, California, with their children. This time last year, it was reported that an invitation to spend Christmas with the Royal family had been withdrawn as the Sussexes still are on the outs with the Firm. Harry and Meghan have not celebrated the holidays with the other senior royals at the Sandringham estate since 2018.
