As the series finale drops, some fans are scratching their heads over the baffling plot twists that unfolded.
One of the most poignant moments in The Handmaid’s Tale season six closure featured the heart-wrenching dialogue between June Osborne (portrayed by Elisabeth Moss) and Luke Bankole (O-T Fagbenle), giving the impression of a farewell but brimming with undertones of hope for rescuing their girl from Gilead.
In their climactic exchange, Luke reveals his ploy to reunite in Washington D. C., implying a temporary divergence in their crusade against the dystopian regime, reports the Mirror US.
Moss has previously described the pivotal scene as one brimming with “hope”, despite the couple embarking on individual quests.
What was said about that last heart-to-heart between Luke and June in the grand finale?

Did June and Luke break up?
They haven’t ended things, but there’s no denying their dynamic isn’t what it used to be.
British actor O-T Fagbenle acknowledges that season six has brought June and Luke closer through shared purpose.
Reflecting on how their connection has deepened by the season’s end, Fagbenle commented: “So I think what we find at the end is a more authentic relationship that is inherently more intimate and closer.”
He tantalised fans with hints about the future of their relationship: “They are going to be together for the rest of their lives and, what that looks like? Does that look romantic? Does it mean they’re having sex? Does it mean they’re talking every night? Who knows? At certain points, certainly not. But they are connected.”

Fagbenle then elucidated to The Hollywood Reporter: “I think it’s one of the false dichotomies of the Luke and Nick [love triangle] question.
“I can’t speak fluently for Nick’s side, but Luke and June are bonded by flesh, and they’re bonded by love, and they’re bonded by a mission.
“So they can’t ever be apart from each other on the most profound of levels.”
His comments suggest that despite any physical distance separating them, June and Luke’s connection remains unbreakable, cemented by both their flesh and blood, referring to Hannah.
But their relationship inevitably ebbs and flows, mirroring their tumultuous circumstances and embracing the possibility of death at every turn.
With Nick Blaine’s (Max Minghella) departure in season six, the trio’s fraught emotional entanglement comes to an abrupt halt.
This marked a significant deviation from the books, specifically The Testaments, where Nick reunites with Holly, his daughter with June.
Audiences are now perched on the edge of their seats, eager to see how the series will navigate this narrative divergence from Atwood’s penned universe.
On stage, Fagbenle remained tight-lipped about Luke’s potential involvement in The Testaments TV series, yet he expressed it was “exciting” to consider that both Luke and June are “out there” somewhere.a
