Fans of Hulu’s Emmy-winning dystopian series believe missing character Emily/Ofglen (played by Alexis Bledel) could be making a comeback for the final outing of the show.
The character was last seen in season four as she struggled to adjust to her life after leaving Gilead after the trauma she’d faced.
Unsurprisingly, Emily decided to go back and fight against Gilead with June Osborne (Elisabeth Moss) only finding out this revelation from Sylvia (Clea DuVall) in season five.
Since then, Emily hasn’t been part of the story after having such a key part in The Handmaid’s Tale.
Emily was written out of the show after actress Bledel made the tough decision to leave.
Nonetheless, there’s been online speculation Emily will be turning up once more with people commenting on Reddit.
One person posted: “To avoid disappointment, I’ll say NO, but there is this handmaid in the season 6 trailer who says ‘blessed be the fruit’…? The Redditor shared a link to the moment in the teaser when the line is uttered.
A second wrote: “Yes I think it is her. I have said it a million times on these subs.”
A third said: “Wow, that’s totally her, huh? Sounds just like her. What an awesome teaser. Emily is back…or at least her voice is.
“If she doesn’t make an appearance, maybe there will be a phone call between her and June, or something?”
A fourth posted: “In the trailer at 1:01 it is Emiliy’s voice saying “Blessed be the fruit!” So I have hope she is appearing [sic].”
Another person reasoned: “I personally think she is. There is a difference with her stating she’s not returning to the show while the show was still premiering and appearing for a scene in the very last episode of the series.
“I would assume she wouldn’t have an issue saying yes to 1 scene in the last episode of a series. If she was asked that is [sic].”
Someone else added: “From what I read the actress does not want to return. So my guess is no. But she might pull a Rob Lowe and show up last minute for the finale.”
Bledel previously released a statement in 2022 about her exit from the series: “After much thought, I felt I had to step away from The Handmaid’s Tale at this time.”
She was originally supposed to be in season five, with the writers having to change the script in line with Bledel’s decision.
However, The Handmaid’s Tale showrunner Bruce Miller has said the door was still open for Bledel should she wish to return.
