Outlander’s Caitriona Balfe, who plays Claire, had strong opinions about a significant love scene in the series.
The scene involved Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire rekindling their physical relationship after a long hiatus.
This intimate moment occurred as Jamie was dealing with the physical and emotional aftermath of his rape and torture by Captain Jack Randall (Tobias Menzies) at the end of the first season. The cruel redcoat had attempted to shatter Jamie and Claire’s bond during this prolonged and brutal assault, reports the Irish Star.
However, they eventually found their way back to each other. The pivotal scene took place in Paris, where they were trying to alter history and prevent the Battle of Culloden.
In a previous Outlander podcast, executive producer Ronald D. Moore and writer Toni Graphia discussed this key sequence.

Graphia revealed: “It was actually your idea Ron that they have sex in here [the nook] for the first time in many, many months.”
She explained the reasoning behind it: “The thought behind it being that it’s dark and that instead of all that talking and instead of all the analysing, let’s just break it down: ‘You and me in the dark and we have what we have and we’ll never lose that’.”
She added: “And I love that line that you put in when she says, ‘Come find me in the dark’, because it all boils down to that.”

Reflecting on the portrayal of a love scene featuring a pregnant woman, Graphia shared the producers’ and Balfe’s thoughts on the depiction of this moment.
Graphia remarked: “We didn’t want to shy away from having sex even with her pregnant belly. We wanted that to be part of it.
“Cait felt very strongly that pregnant women are sexy and we didn’t want to hide her belly in the sex scene or anything like that – like a lot of network shows do,” she continued.

She added: “We wanted to celebrate that and show that it’s part of their love.
“I love this scene and we weren’t sure which episode they were going to reconnect.”
In further comments, Moore shared more details: “Yeah, it kept moving around in the overall structure about when their intimacy would resume.”
He explained: “It took a while before it landed here and I’m glad it did. It feels organic to where the story is because now they’re operating more as a team.”
