1923 Star Wants Another Shot at Their Role in Upcoming Yellowstone Spinoff

1923 star Brandon Sklenar has high hopes for the future of Spencer Dutton.

Speaking to Variety, Sklenar and co-star Julia Schlaepfer, who portrays Alexandra in the hit Yellowstone prequel, were asked about what they are interested in telling in terms of the rest of their characters’ stories. “Oh yeah, we are going to do 1933, ’43, ’53, ’63. I’m really looking forward to ’63,” Sklenar replied. “There’s a lot to draw from there.”

“Then there’s Spencer at Woodstock as an old man, I’m looking forward to filming those scenes. I think he would be really big into [Creedence Clearwater Revival],” Sklenar added. When Schlaepfer reminded him that he would likely be in trouble for revealing so much about the future of the franchise, Sklenar said, “I know, I know. Listen, I know that 1944 is a thing that they are planning on doing here, and maybe we see Spencer in 1944. That is something I would be interested in doing. I love this character… It has affected who I am, it has changed who I am. So I would love to continue to do it in any capacity if I could.”

Sklenar made his debut as Spencer Dutton with the premiere of 1923 in 2022. The second of creator Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone prequels, 1923 stars Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren as Jacob and Cara Dutton. The series follows the Dutton family through the trials and tribulations of the Prohibition era and the days leading up to the Great Depression. The series was lauded by critics and audiences alike upon its release, with many hailing it as a relentlessly grim if infinitely entertaining entry in the ever-expanding Yellowstone franchise.

Yellowstone Is Slated to Expand

Yellowstone is slated to expand in numerous directions in the coming years, even beyond 1944, which will serve as direct sequel to 1923. Fans are eagerly awaiting the release of 6666, which is set to take place between the fourth and fifth seasons of Yellowstone. Even more exciting for fans of the original series is The Madison, which will bring back Cole Hauser and Kelly Reilly in the roles of Rip Wheeler and Beth Dutton for what is expected to be a sixth season of Yellowstone in spirit if not in name. Back in December, Hauser himself said, “We will see what happens over the next year or so and we’ll see what’s next. Hopefully, we can continue to get in people’s living rooms and entertain them the way we have over the last seven years.”
