The cause of death of actor Tim Curry has been revealed one week after the beloved screen and stage star died on August 25 at the age of 80.
According to documents obtained from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, Curry died from coronary artery disease. The records also listed his history of stroke and kidney cancer as contributing factors, though neither was identified as the underlying cause of death.
Curry had faced significant health challenges for more than a decade, including a debilitating stroke in 2012 that left him with serious mobility issues.

Coronary artery disease listed as the cause of death

The official documents identified coronary artery disease as Curry’s underlying cause of death. The condition involves the buildup of plaque in the arteries that supply blood to the heart.
His previous stroke and history of kidney cancer were listed as additional contributing factors.
The documents also stated that Curry had not undergone surgery for his coronary artery disease, kidney cancer or the stroke he suffered more than a decade earlier.
News of his death on August 25 marked the loss of one of the entertainment industry’s most distinctive performers, whose career spanned film, television and theater.
A decade-long battle with serious health issues

Despite the lasting effects of the stroke, the actor continued to make occasional public appearances. As recently as last year, he was still using a wheelchair because of his mobility limitations.
During a rare appearance at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures for the 50th anniversary celebration of The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Curry spoke candidly about the day he suffered the stroke.
He recalled receiving a massage when the person treating him became concerned and insisted on calling an ambulance. Curry initially believed there was no reason for concern, but was ultimately taken to the hospital.
Speaking with his trademark humor, Curry later reflected on the experience and acknowledged that he had still been unable to walk since the stroke.
