Fans of The Witcher may have to wait longer than expected for the fantasy series to reach its conclusion, as a new report claims the show’s fifth and final season has been pushed to 2027.

According to What’s on Netflix, references to a 2026 release for Season 5 have reportedly been removed from Netflix’s public promotional materials and media center. The outlet also claims it has confirmed that the final season is now expected to arrive sometime in 2027, although Netflix has not officially announced the delay or revealed a specific release window.
The reported postponement is particularly notable because production on Season 5 has already been completed. Filming wrapped in September 2025, with Freya Allan, who plays Ciri, previously confirming that she had finished shooting her final scenes for the series.
One possible explanation for the delay is the extensive post-production work required for the show’s large-scale visual effects. With monsters, magic, battles and other fantasy elements playing a major role in the story, completing the visual effects and other finishing work could require considerably more time.
There is also speculation that Netflix may be using the additional time to rearrange its upcoming slate. Delaying The Witcher could allow the streaming service to give other major productions, including Black Doves and 3 Body Problem, more room in its 2026 schedule while saving one of its biggest fantasy titles for the following year.

The fifth season was ordered in April 2024, around the same time production began on Season 4. Netflix announced that the final two seasons would be filmed back-to-back, allowing the series to adapt the remaining novels in Andrzej Sapkowski’s original Witcher saga.
Those final books include Baptism of Fire, The Tower of the Swallow, and The Lady of the Lake, bringing Geralt, Ciri and Yennefer toward the conclusion of the story that inspired the Netflix adaptation.
Season 5 will also mark the second and final season featuring Liam Hemsworth as Geralt of Rivia. Hemsworth took over the role from Henry Cavill beginning with Season 4, making the final two seasons an important transition period for the franchise.
When Netflix announced the final season, showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich promised that the series would push its central characters to their limits while bringing Sapkowski’s story to an “epic and satisfying conclusion.”
For now, however, fans will have to wait for Netflix to officially confirm when that conclusion will arrive. If the latest report is accurate, Geralt’s final adventure will not reach viewers until 2027.
The Witcher Season 5 does not yet have an official release date and is currently listed as TBA on Netflix.
