Stuart Fails to Save the Universe Episode 7 Sends the Gang Into a Mind-Reading World

Warning: Spoilers ahead for Stuart Fails to Save the Universe Episode 7.

After their bizarre adventure in the cow universe, Stuart and the gang return to the store only to find themselves trapped in yet another strange reality. This time, however, there is one major difference: everyone can read everyone else’s minds.

The ability comes with both obvious advantages and uncomfortable consequences. But amid the chaos, the quartet finally makes an important discovery about why they have repeatedly failed to restore the prime universe.

The Missing Piece in Their Plan

Until now, Stuart and his companions have been traveling sideways between different universes. The real problem, however, is that they should be moving along another dimension entirely — time.

Their machine was never actually completed.

In simple terms, the device is missing something essential: a way to steer it. To fix the problem, the group needs to return to Caltech and find the components required to complete the machine.

Stuart, played by Kevin Sussman, also gets some unexpectedly good news along the way. Denise, played by Lauren Lapkus, tells him that she wants to have his children — weak chin and all.

Their visit to Caltech brings another disappointment when they discover that Howard is nowhere to be found. Still, the group does encounter a few familiar faces from the Big Bang Theory universe.

The first is Ramona Nowitzki, played by Riki Lindhome, who is still working as a receptionist. Kripke immediately begins flirting with her, mentally revealing that she smells like his mother. Surprisingly, Ramona does not seem particularly disgusted by the comment.

Melissa Rauch Returns as a Very Different Bernadette

The group then meets another familiar face: Bernadette, once again played by Melissa Rauch.

But this version is dramatically different from the Bernadette fans know. She is also a far cry from the last alternate version encountered in the series, who happened to be a giant and evil demon.

Instead of becoming a microbiologist and eventually working as a pharmaceutical executive, this Bernadette teaches tap dance. Her life has also taken a difficult turn, with a past involving her childhood as a beauty queen, a failed marriage and a career she openly dislikes.

Rauch recently spoke about returning to the Big Bang Theory universe and revealed that Chuck Lorre personally called her to explain the unusual direction for the character.

According to Rauch, Lorre told her that she would technically be playing Bernadette again, but it would be an entirely different version of the character and unlike anything she had played before.

The actress said she was also thrilled when she learned about the cast involved in the project, praising Kevin Sussman, Lauren Lapkus, Brian Posehn and John Ross Bowie as performers she greatly admires.

Meanwhile, Bert is enjoying the unusual perks of the mind-reading universe, particularly the freedom to talk with his mouth full. Stuart, on the other hand, is simply happy that the group’s complete openness is benefiting his sex life.

A Mind-Reading Heist and Another Multiverse Escape

Eventually, the quartet decides to steal the missing components from Caltech.

Their plan has a few obvious weaknesses.

They do not know exactly what they are looking for, where the components are located or how they will use them once they find them. There is also the small matter of attempting a heist in a universe where everyone can hear their thoughts.

Their answer is an unconventional form of meditation.

To keep their real thoughts hidden, the group repeatedly sings “Come On Eileen” inside their heads. The technique helps them get past Nowitzki, while a mental version of “The Girl from Ipanema” is used to distract anyone they encounter in the hallway.

The situation becomes even stranger when they run into another set of themselves — except these versions are wearing lab coats.

As their doubles prepare to jump into another universe, Stuart and the others make a run for it and manage to hitch a ride.

What follows is a rapid trip through several universes they have already visited.

They first return to the apocalyptic world from Episode 1, followed by the “happy world” from Episode 2. Next comes the magic universe, where Neil deGrasse Tyson is being burned at the stake for being a scientist.

The group then passes through the paradise world from Episode 4 before returning once again to the cow universe, where they literally trip over themselves after stopping to eat grass.

By this point, the multiverse has created an increasingly complicated question: who exactly is who, and which version is actually supposed to be the hero destined to save the universe?

Before anyone can figure it out, military versions of Stuart and the gang suddenly appear from a future episode. They take the device from the lab-coat versions, forcing Stuart’s group to follow them into another universe.

Their next stop places them directly in the middle of a war zone.

The quartet manages to escape before the situation becomes even worse, but their next destination delivers another unexpected transformation.

This time, they have become centaurs.

With each jump bringing a stranger version of reality, Stuart Fails to Save the Universe continues to make its multiverse adventure increasingly chaotic — while leaving the question of who is truly meant to save everything more complicated than ever.
