S.W.A.T. Exiles has secured a second season before the new series has even premiered, and star Shemar Moore is already preparing to bring Hondo back into action.

Sony Pictures Television has renewed the S.W.A.T. spinoff for Season 2, with Moore confirming the news on social media earlier this week. The actor, who returns as Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson, said he is thrilled to continue the story after the original S.W.A.T. series concluded its eight-season run on CBS.
“We’re jazzed,” Moore told TV Insider, joking that he needs to get back into shape for the role. “As soon as I get off the phone with you, I got to get to the gym and get all my Hondo back.”
The renewal comes weeks before S.W.A.T. Exiles makes its debut on Starz. The series is scheduled to premiere Friday, September 25, giving fans a chance to see what Hondo’s next chapter looks like before production on the second season begins.
While details about Season 2 remain limited, Moore previously indicated that filming is expected to begin in the coming months. A premiere date has not yet been announced.

The spinoff picks up after Hondo’s time leading the original 20-Squad. Rather than returning to his former position, he is drawn back into the field to lead an experimental S.W.A.T. unit made up of young recruits who are inexperienced, unpredictable and struggling to work together.
The unusual team puts Hondo in the role of both leader and mentor. He must bridge a generational divide, manage clashing personalities and transform a group of outsiders into an effective unit while fighting to save the S.W.A.T. program that helped define his career.
Joining Moore are Ronen Rubinstein as Jude, Freddy Miyares as Ethan, Zyra Gorecki as Cassidy, Adain Bradley as Malik and Lucy Barrett as Sammy.

Several familiar faces from the original series are also returning. Jay Harrington reprises his role as Sergeant David “Deacon” Kay, while Patrick St. Esprit returns as Commander Robert Hicks and David Lim returns as Victor Tan.
The spinoff was ordered by Sony Pictures Television shortly after the original S.W.A.T. aired its final episode in 2025. The first season had already been filmed by the time Starz announced in June 2026 that it would become the show’s new home.
That early commitment to another season gives S.W.A.T. Exiles an unusual vote of confidence before audiences have even seen its first episode. For Moore, meanwhile, the renewal means more time with a character he has played for years — but in a dramatically different setting.
Hondo is no longer simply the veteran officer leading an established team. This time, he has to build one from the ground up.
With Season 1 still waiting to premiere, fans now have two reasons to look forward to the spinoff: discovering whether Hondo’s new squad can live up to expectations and seeing where the story goes in Season 2.
