LL Cool J’s Sam Hanna is heading to New York, and the latest trailer for NCIS: New York gives fans their first real taste of his new team — and his unlikely partnership with Scott Caan’s Nick Schaeffer.

The upcoming CBS spinoff brings Sam back to the East Coast after his 14-season run on NCIS: Los Angeles. This time, the veteran agent joins the NCIS field office in New York City, where he will work under Assistant Special Agent in Charge Robyn Wells, played by Jennifer Beals.
Sam’s arrival immediately changes the dynamic of the team, particularly when he is paired with Nick, a more unpredictable and roguish agent portrayed by Caan.
The newly released trailer introduces the pair as they meet in Wells’ office. Nick welcomes Sam by saying he has heard good things about him, prompting Sam to deliver a characteristically confident response. Their first interaction quickly establishes the playful rivalry that appears likely to define their partnership.
As Nick gives Sam a tour of the office, the two trade jokes about each other’s size, showing that their differences may be just as entertaining as their investigative work.
Beneath the banter, however, the trailer suggests that both agents share a serious commitment to the job. Sam tells the team that he appreciates the opportunity to work alongside them, while Nick makes it clear that he wants to work with the best.
The new team also includes Addy Ross, played by Jacqueline Byers; Wyatt Hills, played by Shane Harper; and tech specialist Sean Sullivan, played by Devin Druid. Together, they will tackle cases out of the New York field office under Wells’ leadership.

For longtime NCIS viewers, Sam’s return is the biggest connection to the franchise’s past. LL Cool J played the character throughout all 14 seasons of NCIS: Los Angeles, later appearing in NCIS: Hawai’i and the flagship series before taking center stage in the new spinoff.
Caan, meanwhile, brings his own connection to the franchise. Although he previously appeared in the NCIS universe through a crossover with Hawai’i Five-0, he will play an entirely new character in NCIS: New York.
With Sam’s experience and Nick’s unpredictable approach set to collide, the new series looks poised to mix high-stakes investigations with plenty of character-driven banter.
NCIS: New York premieres Tuesday, October 6 at 9/8c on CBS.
