“This was Hayden. Bursting with brilliance, shining so bright,” Britton wrote alongside the photos. “I have no words for this sad song. Just heartbreak. I love you girl. Sleep easy now.”
Britton also shared a video of Panettiere dancing with children as part of an Instagram Story, adding another personal memory of her former costar. “This angel!” she captioned the footage, recalling a moment backstage with the African Children’s Choir.
Panettiere died on August 16 at her home in South Carolina. She was 36. Her family confirmed her death in a statement to ABC News, describing the actress as “an incredible light and a force of nature” who brought joy to those around her and to audiences who watched her work.
An official cause of death has not yet been announced. Authorities are expected to conduct an autopsy as part of the investigation into her death.
Panettiere and Britton worked together on Nashville, which aired for six seasons from 2012 to 2018. Panettiere played Juliette Barnes, a talented but troubled country music star, while Britton portrayed legendary singer Rayna Jaymes. Their characters shared a complicated professional and personal relationship throughout the series.
Britton left Nashville during its fifth season, but the connection between the two actresses continued beyond their time on the show. Her tribute offered a glimpse into the affection she continued to hold for Panettiere years after their series ended.
Panettiere began her acting career as a child and went on to become widely recognized for roles across television and film. She gained international attention as Claire Bennet on Heroes and later appeared in projects including Remember the Titans, the Scream franchise and Bring It On.
Her performance as Juliette Barnes became one of her most celebrated roles, earning her critical recognition and multiple award nominations. The character also allowed Panettiere to showcase her singing abilities, adding another dimension to her career.
Panettiere is survived by her 11-year-old daughter, Kaya Evdokia Klitschko, as well as her parents, Lesley Vogel and Skip Panettiere.
As tributes continue to emerge from friends, costars and fans, Britton’s message stands as a deeply personal remembrance of the actress she knew both on screen and behind the scenes.
