Comedian and actress Rosie O’Donnell has shared new details about her health transformation, revealing how treatment with the diabetes medication Mounjaro helped her lose around 60 pounds over the past three years. Speaking in a recent interview with People, the 64-year-old also discussed her decision to undergo a deep plane facelift, saying she believes being open about both experiences can help others facing similar challenges.
O’Donnell explained that she began taking Mounjaro after being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes three years ago. At the time, she knew little about the medication, but she says it soon had a profound impact on both her physical health and her relationship with food.

According to O’Donnell, one of the medication’s most significant effects was reducing what she described as the constant “food noise” that had accompanied her for much of her life. She credited the treatment with helping her gradually lose weight at a steady pace, averaging one to two pounds each month.
The comedian also reflected on the emotional roots of her long struggle with weight. She recalled that after her mother died when she was a child, grief and difficult family circumstances led to unhealthy eating habits that affected everyone in the household. Those early experiences, she said, shaped her lifelong relationship with food and body image.

O’Donnell hopes that by speaking openly about using GLP-1 medication, she can help reduce the stigma surrounding obesity and encourage others to seek appropriate medical treatment. She emphasized that many people living with obesity experience shame and judgment, and she believes honest conversations can help change public attitudes.
Her recent weight loss also led to another personal decision. After losing a significant amount of weight, O’Donnell chose to undergo a deep plane facelift to address loose skin around her lower face. She explained that prominent facial lines made her appear unhappy, even when she felt positive and healthy.

The decision, however, was not an easy one. O’Donnell admitted she initially struggled with concerns about cosmetic surgery, particularly because of her feminist beliefs. She questioned whether the procedure conflicted with her long-held views about beauty standards and societal expectations for women.
A conversation with her youngest child prompted further reflection, but after months of consideration, she concluded that feminism also means respecting a woman’s right to make decisions about her own body. She ultimately chose a procedure that would preserve her natural appearance rather than dramatically alter her face.
O’Donnell said television personality Ricki Lake, who has previously spoken publicly about her own facelift, provided advice and support throughout the process. She also revealed that the surgery cost approximately $90,000, a figure she openly shared because she did not want to give people unrealistic expectations about how her appearance had changed.
Now performing her one-woman show Common Knowledge in New York City, O’Donnell says she feels healthier, stronger and more confident than she has in years. More importantly, she hopes her willingness to discuss both medical treatment and cosmetic surgery encourages others to make informed decisions without shame or secrecy.
