Apple TV+ is expanding its comedy lineup with Bad News Dads, a new half-hour comedy-mystery series set to star and executive produce James Marsden.

Based on Adam Frost’s upcoming novel of the same name, the series follows a struggling recreational baseball league whose season takes an unexpected turn after one player’s wife dies in what appears to be a suspicious accident.
Marsden will play Ben, the team’s catcher, who convinces two of his fellow teammates to launch an amateur investigation into the mysterious death. As the trio digs deeper into the case while trying to keep their secret from their wives, they uncover far more than they ever expected.

The series is written and executive produced by You’re the Worst creator Stephen Falk, who will also serve as showrunner. The project is backed by Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television.
At the moment, Marsden is the only cast member officially attached to the series, with additional casting expected to be announced at a later date.
Bad News Dads is currently in early development, and Apple TV+ has yet to announce a premiere date. Meanwhile, Adam Frost’s novel is scheduled for release in April 2027.
Blending comedy, mystery, and suburban family life, Bad News Dads is shaping up to be one of Apple TV+’s most intriguing upcoming original series.
