Chicago Fire is preparing for another major cast shake-up, with actor Dermot Mulroney set to leave the NBC drama during Season 15. The departure comes shortly after news broke that longtime cast member Joe Miñoso will also exit the series, signaling significant changes ahead for Firehouse 51.

Mulroney joined the hit firefighting drama in Season 14 as Battalion Chief Dom Pascal, taking over leadership after Wallace Boden’s promotion within the Chicago Fire Department. Initially viewed as an outsider, Pascal gradually earned the respect and trust of the firefighters at Station 51, becoming an integral part of the team over the course of the season.
However, Pascal’s tenure was far from smooth. During a crossover event involving Chicago Fire, Chicago Med and Chicago P.D., he defied FBI orders by entering an apartment to retrieve crucial evidence linked to a bioweapon investigation. Although his decision ultimately helped the case, it came at a personal cost, resulting in his arrest and dismissal from the Chicago Fire Department.
The Season 14 finale hinted that Pascal’s story was not over. After returning to speak with Kelly Severide about his career crossroads, he accompanied Firehouse 51 on an emergency call that ended in one of the series’ biggest cliffhangers. As firefighters battled a dangerous blaze, Pascal remained outside alongside paramedics Violet Mikami and Lyla Novak, making them among the few characters whose immediate safety was not in question.

Despite his brief return, Mulroney was never confirmed as a permanent cast member for the new season. According to reports, the actor will appear only in the opening episodes of Season 15 to conclude Pascal’s storyline before making his exit.
The timing has fueled speculation about the future leadership of Firehouse 51. Throughout the previous season, Kelly Severide found himself weighing a permanent transfer to the Office of Fire Investigation against remaining with his longtime firehouse after being promoted to captain. With Pascal and veteran firefighter Joe Cruz both leaving, many viewers believe the series is positioning Severide to stay and eventually assume greater leadership responsibilities.
Season 15 will also introduce fresh faces to offset the departures. Actor Da’Vinchi is set to join the cast as a new firefighter candidate, suggesting the long-running drama is preparing for a new chapter while maintaining its focus on Firehouse 51’s evolving team dynamics.
Although Mulroney’s time on the series lasted only one season, his portrayal of Dom Pascal added a different leadership style to the station. His willingness to challenge authority, combined with his commitment to protecting others, made the character a memorable addition despite his relatively short run.
With multiple departures, unresolved cliffhangers and leadership changes on the horizon, Chicago Fire Season 15 promises to usher in one of the show’s most transformative eras when it premieres this October.
