Boston Blue Season 2 Premiere Reveals Henry Reagan’s Return and a New Murder Investigation

Boston Blue is set to return with major questions hanging over the fate of Detective Brian Rodgers — and a familiar member of the Reagan family will be back to help.

CBS released the first plot details for the Boston Blue Season 2 premiere on September 1, confirming that Henry Reagan, played by Len Cariou, will return from Blue Bloods. The new season will also continue the mystery surrounding Brian Rodgers after the detective was attacked and seemingly left for dead in the river during the Season 1 finale.

Season 2 premieres on Friday, October 9, at 10/9c on CBS. The opening episode, titled “The Crash,” will also see Danny Reagan facing what is described as a career-defining promotion.

Henry Reagan Joins Danny and Lena in a Dangerous New Case

The Season 2 premiere will center on a disturbing series of murders that mirror the infamous Boston Strangler killings.

Danny Reagan, played by Donnie Wahlberg, and Lena Silver, played by Sonequa Martin-Green, will race to identify and stop a copycat killer before another attack takes place. As fear spreads across Boston, Jonah and Sean — now coming off their rookie year — will join Henry Reagan in helping Danny and Lena track down the suspect.

CBS also released the first photos from the new season, showing Danny and Lena back together on the case.

The images reveal that Lena has recovered from the gunshot wound she suffered in the Season 1 finale, suggesting that some time will have passed between the events of the two seasons.

Brian Rodgers’ Fate Remains Uncertain

One of the biggest mysteries heading into Season 2 remains the fate of Detective Brian Rodgers, played by Ryan Broussard.

The Season 1 finale ended with Rodgers being attacked after his truck was rammed off the road and into a river, leaving his survival unclear.

The newly released premiere description does not confirm whether Rodgers is alive or dead. However, the investigation into the attack will continue, and Lena will uncover a lead that could connect what happened to Rodgers with a powerful figure.

At the same time, Danny will have to consider a major professional opportunity that could significantly affect the next stage of his career.

More Blue Bloods Faces Are Returning

Henry Reagan will not be the only familiar face from the Blue Bloods universe appearing in Season 2.

Marisa Ramirez is set to return as Maria Baez, while Will Estes will reprise his role as Jamie Reagan. Although Jamie’s return has been confirmed, CBS has not yet announced which episode he will appear in.

Vanessa Ray, who played Eddie Janko — Jamie’s wife and NYPD partner — also visited the Boston Blue set in Boston in August. However, she was not filming a scene and was simply visiting her former castmates.

Season 2 is also expected to continue exploring Lena’s family storyline. Erik King and Alisha Wainwright, who were introduced late in Season 1 as Lena’s biological father Chris and her half-sister Kristina, are presumed to return.

With Henry Reagan back, a copycat killer on the loose, and the mystery surrounding Brian Rodgers still unresolved, Boston Blue Season 2 will open with Danny and Lena facing some of their biggest challenges yet.

Boston Blue Season 2 premieres Friday, October 9, at 10/9c on CBS.
