The Irish actress shared the image of a burnt cauliflower and a mystery vegetable with fans expressing their sympathy

Caitriona Balfe has left Outlander stars scratching their heads after posting a picture of her ‘burnt’ lunch on set.

The Claire Beauchamp Randall Fraser actress wanted to share the food she was given from her catering as she films season seven of the hit time-travelling drama. And while the blackened cauliflower was obvious, there was even some debate about what else was in her box.

Tagging co-starts like Sam Heughan, Sophie Skelton and Richard Rankin, she said: “Awwwww yummmy. Love our on set catering. Right……@SkeltonSophie @SamHeughan @RikRankin @Outlander_STARZ”.

And fans were quick to offer their sympathy to their heroes. BrandaGPearson said: “Aww you poor guys. You work so hard and I am guessing on empty stomachs, or malnourished ones.”

And Susan Russ said: “Looks like they accidentally ran over it with a truck before serving. Cook #1: ‘Do you think they’ll notice?’ Cook #2: ‘Just tell ’em it’s a breakthrough new paleo diet.'”

Others seemed confused as to what else was in the snap with the cauliflower. Some thought it was an aubergine, others a piece of naan bread while another said: “Cauliflower and butternut squash. It might taste better burned. I am impressed by someone’s ability to slice the squash that thin. Those things are tough to cut up.”

Kathryn said: “What is that supposed to be? I’d give it last rites and a proper burial at this point. I bet @SamHeughan has hidden snacks somewhere. At least a protein shake.”

NowWithMoreMango summed up the picture, saying: “Yikes! Those vegetables look ready for Halloween.”

Balfe recently marked the 104th ‘birthday’ or her character by sharing a picture of the first time she played her.
