Outlander fans love Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan as Claire and Jamie Fraser in the long-running romantic drama. Throughout the show so far, many fans have wondered what their relationship was like off the cameras as well – but some might not realise they actually made a pact when they first cast.
What pact did Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan make when they were cast?
Fans of Outlander will know how special the chemistry between Claire and Jamie is on the show.
Much of this comes from the close relationship stars Balfe and Heughan have behind the scenes.
But some might not realise their friendship began with them making a pact when they were initially cast in the series.
Speaking to Parade.com in 2018, the star revealed how overwhelming it felt when they were both cast.

They also had no idea how big the show was going to be when it aired and won the hearts of viewers.
She told the publication how she and Heughan, therefore, made a decision to look out for each other.
She said: “We made a decision before we ever started filming, when he and I were both down in London getting our hair destroyed.
“We went for a walk, me with a poodle perm and he with some iteration of ginger on his head.

“We were just talking about it and we were like, ‘Who knows what this is going to be?’”
Balfe explained how they hadn’t started filming yet and were just in the process of transforming into their roles.
She continued: “We hadn’t filmed anything yet. But we both said, ‘We’ve got to have each other’s backs.
“‘If we don’t support each other, who knows what kind of mess this could be?’ And we’ve done that from day one.”
The star then went on to open up about what a close bond they share with each other because of this approach.
Balfe added: “We’re each other’s biggest supporters. He’s always there if I ever need to talk, or if I’m stressed out about something, and vice versa.”
The pair’s close bond has been a talking point over the years with some fans hoping they might be dating in real life.
However, Balfe and Heughan have always just been good friends.
They even spend time together outside of filming along with some of their fellow actors.
During a recent interview for the End of Summer Series, they both revealed they had seen each other recently in person as well.
They spoke about having a socially distanced cocktail night while they wait to film season six.
Hopefully, the pair will both be back in action very soon when production starts up again.
A date has not yet been confirmed for this but there are still a number of coronavirus COVID-19 restrictions in place.
This could make the beginning of filming difficult but the stars have confirmed they are working towards it.
