Danny Ramirez‘s role in “The Last of Us” will be recast for Season 3 due to scheduling conflicts.

Ramirez joined the cast of the HBO apocalypse drama in Season 2. He played Manny, who was described as “a loyal soldier whose sunny outlook belies the pain of old wounds and a fear that he will fail his friends when they need him most” when his casting was announced in 2024. Manny is a former member of the Fireflies, a rebel militia, who is friends with Abby (Kaitlyn Dever) and helps her seek revenge on Joel (Pedro Pascal) for the massacre he carried out on the Firefly hospital to save Ellie (Bella Ramsay).

Ramirez is best known for playing Joaquin Torres/Falcon in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, including the 2021 series “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier,” the 2025 film “Captain America: Brave New World” and the upcoming film “Avengers: Doomsday.” He will also appear in the upcoming Jean-Michel Basquiat biopic “Samo Lives.”

Per the official logline, “The Last of Us” begins “20 years after modern civilization has been destroyed. Joel, a hardened survivor, is hired to smuggle Ellie, a 14-year-old girl, out of an oppressive quarantine zone. What starts as a small job soon becomes a brutal, heartbreaking journey, as they both must traverse the U.S. and depend on each other for survival.” Season 2 took place five years later, as “Joel and Ellie are drawn into conflict with each other and a world even more dangerous and unpredictable than the one they left behind.”

The series is based on the video game of the same name by Neil Druckmann, who co-created the TV series with Craig Mazin. Both served as writers and directors on Season 2, though Druckman exited his creative roles ahead of Season 3 to focus on other projects.
