  • Netflix announced that the show has been renewed for a second season in September 2025

Keep the clay pigeons close because The Hunting Wives is officially coming back for a season 2.

The sultry and soapy Netflix series — based on the 2021 novel by May Cobb — follows Sophie (Brittany Snow), a Boston transplant who moves to Texas and falls in with an elite group of women led by Margo (Malin Akerman).

Despite the united front shown to the world, the relationships between the fun-loving gal pals aren’t as simple and innocent as they seem. The eight-episode season, which premiered on July 21, showed Sophie and Margo’s connection forming when the latter was already dealing with complicated dynamics in her life.

In a twist, Margo entangles Sophie in her drama, potentially taking her down as well. “What I loved about the book was how naughty the characters were,” series creator and showrunner Rebecca Cutter told Texas Monthly.

In September 2025, Netflix announced that the show has been renewed with new episodes based on an original script, rather than Cobb’s novel.

So what do we know about season 2 of The Hunting Wives? Here’s what the show’s creator and cast have said about the drama continuing with more episodes.

Will there be a season 2 of The Hunting Wives?

Even before The Hunting Wives was officially renewed for season 2, there was reason to hope that there will be more tension between Sophie and Margo in the future thanks to the first season’s strong viewership.

The Hunting Wives premiered on July 21 on Netflix, and in its first week, it quickly claimed a spot in the Top English TV titles on the streamer. According to DeadlineThe Hunting Wives was No. 3 for the week of July 21, behind Untamed and Amy Bradley Is Missing, garnering 5.2 million views during the first seven days.

The announcement that the new season is officially a go came via an Instagram post from Netflix on Sept. 12 that showed Snow and Akerman talking on a staged FaceTime call about how they were headed back to Maple Brook.

What has The Hunting Wives cast said about season 2?

Ahead of the show’s renewal, the cast was also crossing their fingers that more episodes would be on the way.

In July 2025, Akerman told PEOPLE how she “definitely” wanted season 2 to happen.

“Not only to see it all play out, but when you get to go back to a show over and over again, it’s like going to summer camp and seeing the people that you love the most,” she explained. “That’s what this show feels like. I loved everyone on the cast and crew.”

“If we get a second season, I’ll be so, so happy,” she added.

While talking to Collider, Akerman’s costar, Snow, shared her thoughts on where the season ended, saying, “There are a lot of questions that didn’t get answered because Rebecca [Cutter] wants to answer them in the next season if we get one.”

What has The Hunting Wives creator said about season 2?

In a July 2025 Variety interview, Cutter, the creator and showrunner, teased that if there was a season 2, she thinks there would be “a little bit of a time jump — not a year, but a time.”

As for Margo and Sophie’s complicated relationship, Cutter explained, “The first thing I’m thinking about is, where are these two women at the start? Where are they at the end? What are the peaks and valleys of their individual power, of their relationship? So it’s tracking a course for that, and then figuring out what the crime engine is.”

She also noted how she thinks “it would be smart” to have a new murder mystery in the next season, adding, “I don’t know whodunit yet or who got done!”

Speaking to CBS 19, Cobb elaborated on continuing the project, saying, “I feel like there is so much more story to be told.”

“It ends on a cliffhanger, and also, the cast and crew were so wonderful,” she continued. “We all just want to get back together and work together again.”

When the show was renewed in September 2025, Cutter said in a statement that she “can’t wait to take the audience on another sexy, twisted, bats— crazy ride through Maple Brook.”

Is The Hunting Wives a true story?

The Hunting Wives is not a true story, but it is based on the 2021 novel by Cobb.

Cobb’s upbringing in East Texas inspired the book. Before the show came to fruition, the author showed Cutter around Texas, including her hometown of Longview. Notably, Cutter visited Cobb’s sister’s log cabin on the lake, which has a nod in The Hunting Wives.

“My brother-in-law took Rebecca on a tour so she could see East Texas, where it’s not just fishing cabins,” Cobb told Variety. “These are very opulent, oversized — and then the next day, we all went skeet shooting. Very much like Sophie, Rebecca hit a clay pigeon on the third try.”

“I was like, ‘You’re now officially a hunting wife.’ We bonded instantly,” she added.
