All three seasons of AMC‘s A Discovery of Witches hit Netflix this week, introducing the intoxicating romance between debonair vampire Matthew Clairmont (Matthew Goode) and the brilliant witch and historian Diana Bishop (Teresa Palmer) to more fans than ever before. A Discovery of Witches initially came to a mostly satisfying end back in 2022, with a finale that not only explained the secrets of Ashmole 782, aka The Book of Life, but also tied things up neatly for our protagonists. However, could there be a fourth season of A Discovery of Witches? After all, the three season series was initially based on the All Souls Trilogy by Deborah Harkness, a trilogy that’s recently been expanded with a fifth installment, Black Bird Oracle, focused on the future of Diana and Matthew. Could there be A Discovery of Witches Season 4?!?

Way back in March 2021, Decider chatted with A Discovery of Witches star Teresa Palmer ahead of the second season finale. She had already completed filming on Season 3 and was gushing about being reunited with her Discovery of Witches co-star Steven Cree on a recent film project. When we asked Palmer back then if she’d be open to continuing with the role past Season 3, she had a very intriguing answer…that depended upon the future of Deborah Harkness’s series…

Will There Be A Discovery of Witches Season 4?

As of right now, we don’t know. In fact, the safe bet would be that there will not be another season of A Discovery of Witches.

However, when Decider interviewed A Discovery of Witches star Teresa Palmer all the way back in 2021, she wouldn’t officially shut down the possibility. Even though Palmer thought they found a “beautiful organic ending to the show,” she also admitted that she was having trouble letting go of Diana.

“I think she’s really got a place in my heart. She’s imprinted on me. I have always been really good at breaking up with a character and moving on, but she’s kind of lingering around,” Palmer said.

Palmer also said that while she didn’t know of any plans to continue A Discovery of Witches past Season 3, she was aware that Harkness was cooking up new adventures for Diana, Matthew, and their twins.

“Deborah’s always writing, writing, writing, writing, and I think she’s written more books and she has the intention of writing more for Diana and Matthew,” Palmer said in 2021. “So never say never.”

Three years later, and Harkness has published the fifth installment in her All Souls Series. The fourth book focused on Marcus Whitmore, a character played by the recently-axed My Lady Jane‘s hot horse guy Edward Bluemel. However, this latest book picks up Diana and Matthew’s story seven years after A Discovery of Witches Season 3 ends. Which means there is definitely room for A Discovery of Witches to come back.

So now there’s the tantalizing glimmer of a possibility that should A Discovery of Witches take off on Netflix, a fourth season could be in the cards. At least, the Teresa Palmer of 2021 wasn’t opposed to it. Who knows what she thinks now? (She has recently posted quite a few nostalgic behind-the-scenes clips and images on Instagram…)
