Ahead of the premiere of season 2 of The Last of Us, Bella Ramsey is booked and busy — and letting some bits of personal information slip through the cracks.

In their cover story interview with British Vogue, Bella Ramsey, who’s famously reserved, admitted they were “properly in love” for the first time in their life during the filming of the show’s long-anticipated season.

In case you missed it, among other storylines, season 2 of The Last of Us, which is set to premiere on April 13, 2025, will focus on the love story between Ramsey’s character, Ellie, and on-screen girlfriend, Dina, played by Isabela Merced.

Speaking to Vogue, Ramsey admitted that “experiencing [real love] while I was filming the show was really special.” For reference, filming for The Last of Us season 2 ended in August 2024.

While Ramsey has never publicly confirmed who they were in love with, many believed the star seemingly confirmed their relationship with Maisy Stella in a sweet Instagram Story back in September 2024 after weeks of speculation (read: tons of Instagram flirting via each other’s comments).

In celebration of The Last of Us star’s 21st birthday on September 25, 2024, Stella shared a super sweet pic of them with their arms wrapped around each other. In the shot, Stella faces the camera with a wide smile while Ramsey nuzzles into her neck.

The My Old Ass actor wished Ramsey an official happy birthday in a separate post, sharing a photo of Ramsey with a red heart emoji and the overlaid message, “Beautiful beautiful beautiful happy birthday the coolest comfiest most wonderful human imaginable.”

While we’re not certain when or how the two young stars met, it seems Ramsey’s first comment on Stella’s Instagram was in late January 2024 on a post about My Old Ass’s Sundance Film Festival premiere. Ramsey wrote, “Oh yeaaah” with a wounded heart emoji; Stella’s first comment on Ramsey’s account appears to be on an August 5, 2024, teaser trailer for The Last of Us season 2, where she wrote, “Oooooooooh my.” A match made in heaven.

The two have been flirting in each other’s comments ever since, with Ramsey making a few random appearances on Stella’s Instagram Stories over the last few weeks.

Stella plays a queer teen in her coming-of-age film My Old Ass, which had a limited theatrical release in the U.S. on September 13, 2024. Stella has said that portraying that character helped her better connect to her own sexuality. “Labels are tricky,” she said in an interview with The Advocate. “I was never pressured to put a label on myself, and I was always what I am. I was always open, and I was always queer.” She later told the Los Angeles Times that she identifies as pansexual.

Ramsey, who is nonbinary, has also previously spoken publicly about their sexuality, saying they were “not 100 percent straight” in a 2023 British Vogue interview. That same year, they also opened up to L’Officiel about the importance of having authentic queer representation on The Last of Us. “It was really nice to have two really queer episodes,” they said. “Like, gay people exist, so why shouldn’t they exist in the apocalypse?”

Speaking to British Vogue in 2024, Ramsey looked back on their coming out, lamenting having done it so decisively, where they also shared their autism diagnosis.

“Part of the job of being an actor is that you’re supposed to have an answer to every question that people ask you. But actually the answer can be: ‘I don’t know and I’m not ready to talk about that,’ and that’s something that I’m still figuring out,” they said.

“The label of being autistic has been so helpful to me because that’s helped me to understand myself, but gender and sexuality-wise, labels do not feel comfy for me in any capacity, because I feel like I’m putting myself into a box. I feel trapped,” Ramsey continued.
