Phillip Schofield’s daughter Molly ‘stuck her middle finger up’ at trolls who claimed she changed her surname.

The former This Morning presenter has been a divisive topic since it emerged that he had an “unwise but not illegal” affair with a much younger colleague last year. He apologised at the time for having previously lied about the situation and in his resignation statement stated that the “consensual on-off relationship” was “now over”.

Phillip – who announced four years ago that he was gay – has been supported by loved ones following the scandal. His family includes his daughters Molly Schofield, 31, and Ruby Schofield, 28, whom he shares with Stephanie Lowe, 60. Amid his comeback to TV, Molly has been targeted by trolls who claimed she changed her surname to ‘Lowe’ as she ‘wasn’t proud of her father’.

On her Instagram Stories, she shared pictures of her posing with her father. “What a night, thank you all for the support.” She shared a similar photo on her next post and added: “Couldn’t be MORE proud,” before posting a screenshot of a troll’s comment questioning whether she’s actually proud of Phillip.

The comment read: “So if she’s so proud of him why does she use her mother’s name and go as Molly Lowe? That’s a recent change. She was always Schofield and no doubt was happy to use it.” Molly quickly responded: “I’m Molly Schofield… and proud to be,” before adding a middle finger emoji.

Molly, Ruby and Stephanie are set to appear in Cast Away, including in a scene filmed at a BBQ in the family’s garden. Molly spoke about her father Phillip and the scandal on the show. At one point, she said: “When my dad came out it was very hard for me. It was very hard for the entire family.

“Mainly my mum, of course – everything was turned upside down. But we talked through it and [over time] it’s got easier.” She adds: “My mum and my sister, we’re all the same. We’ll always continue to support him, no matter what. I never thought it would have gone the way it has.” Molly describes herself as the “luckiest person” to have her parents remain “best friends” after their experiences.

Molly also shared in the new series that everything that happened had brought the family “closer”. She said: “We’ve seen him at his lowest times, but I’ve been so proud of him, and as a daughter to see the love that people had for him that when it’s taken away it’s just heartbreaking.”
