Outlander season 7 delivered a moment that was difficult for some viewers to sit through, but the finale made the journey worthwhile. The romantic fantasy series has never been shy about its steamy scenes, and season 7 continued that tradition. Jamie and Claire have long been at the heart of the show’s most passionate moments — one of the reasons romance fans have stayed devoted for years. However, as the story expands and the younger characters mature, the show’s more intimate scenes can sometimes feel a bit awkward.
While Jamie and Claire’s love remains as strong as ever, they’re no longer the only couple heating up the screen. Season 7 introduced a love triangle involving Ian Murray, Rachel Hunter, and William Ransom — which eventually resolved happily. William found himself in a heartbreaking affair with Jane Pocock, while Ian and Rachel sealed their love in a charming Quaker wedding. Their wedding night, though tender and meaningful, was also slightly uncomfortable to watch.
Ian & Rachel’s Sex Scene Was Hard To Watch In Outlander
It Wasn’t The Usual Spicy Outlander Moment
John Bell and Izzy Meikle-Small delivered outstanding performances in Outlander season 7. Watching their once-forbidden romance blossom into something deeper was genuinely heartwarming, and their wedding night unfolded exactly as it should have. Rachel’s innocence and curiosity made her eagerness to connect with her husband feel natural, while Ian’s gentle and patient approach was undeniably endearing. Even so, their consummation scene was somewhat uncomfortable to witness.
Having first appeared as a 14-year-old in Outlander season 3, Ian’s evolution into an adult makes it understandably difficult for longtime viewers to see him in such an intimate light. The show portrayed Ian and Rachel’s romantic encounter with the same tenderness reserved for Jamie and Claire, yet the audience’s perspective on them feels distinctly different. Perhaps it’s because Rachel’s character embodies modesty and devotion, but her passionate scene with Ian almost felt too private — as though viewers were intruding on something deeply personal.
Rachel’s Pregnancy Makes This Uncomfortable Outlander Moment Worth It
This Is Precisely The Ending Ian Deserves
Although Rachel and Ian’s intimate scene in Outlander was somewhat uncomfortable to watch, it ultimately paid off with the heartwarming revelation in season 7’s finale — the couple is expecting a baby. Ian has long dreamed of becoming a devoted father, having lost a daughter and knowing that his son is being raised by another man. Rachel’s quick pregnancy is not only joyful news but also a beautiful sign of how well-matched the two are. While their on-screen intimacy may have felt awkward, their love story remains pure and endearing. Watching them finally get their well-deserved happy ending in Outlander season 8 will make the journey all the more rewarding.
