Kendrick Lamar Breaks All-Time Hip Hop Chart Record

Kendrick Lamar has broken the all-time record for amount of weeks a song has spent a the top of the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip Hop Chart.

“Luther”, his smash collaboration with SZA, has now spent 23 weeks at the summit of the chart meaning Kendrick has broken his own record which he previously held with “Not Like Us”.

Between K. Dot and SZA, they occupy all top three spots on the all-time list as the singer’s “Kill Bill” was number one for 21 weeks across 2022 and 2023.

Despite already breaking the record, it is expected that “Luther” remains in the number one spot for weeks to come.

“Luther” finally fell off the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 last week after a remarkable thirteen weeks at number one.

Lamar has been breaking records left and right over the last year.

A recent performance by Kendrick and SZA on their Grand National Tour in Seattle grossed $14.8 million meaning Dot became the first rapper to ever break the $14 million mark for a single concert.

It was the most attended gig on the tour so far with almost 61,000 fans attending.

Kendrick broke his own record with the feat after a performance at the AT&T Stadium in Dallas brought in a whopping $11.822 million in a single night.

That concert meant Lamar became the highest grossing Black man in history for a single live performance.

The record was previously held by The Weeknd, who grossed $9.8 million at his 2022 concert at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles.

The opening night of the Grand National tour also saw Lamar first break the record for highest grossing rap concert in history.

According to Touring Data, the opening night in Minneapolis grossed over $9.1 million from more than 47,000 fans at an average price of $192.70.

Lamar has not just been breaking records on the live performance front, he has also been smashing through long-existing chart records since last year.

“Not Like Us” recently became the first ever rap song in history to spend an entire year on the Billboard Hot 100.

The chart-topping diss record spent 52 weeks on the chart before finally falling off just last month.
