And now Daily Express columnist Richard Madeley, who has been married to Judy Finnigan for years, has revealed that having a good sex life is the secret to their long lasting relationship.

The pair, who hosted the flagship ITV show This Morning for 13 years, first met in 1982 on separate programmes for Granada TV and have two children together Jack, 28 and 26-year-old Chloe.

Talking about their rock solid union, Madeley told blinkbox Books: “I think relationships can evolve to a point in old age where sex becomes less important but I’m 58 not 98.

“In most dynamic marriages sex is a very important component. You can deny that at your peril.”

He added: “One of the reasons that most marriages fail is because there is growing sexual incompatibility.

“Research shows most happily married people in their ’70s and ’80s still have a functioning sex life and they should.”

The TV presenter turned novelist – who recently published his second book ‘The Way You Look Tonight’ – also admitted he wouldn’t shy away from writing a raunchy novel similar to E.L. James’ ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’.

He said: “I really like writing about women. That is probably from doing 13 years on ‘This Morning’ which has a 60 to 70 per cent [female] audience.

“So much was clearly angled towards sexuality,” he explained.

He continued: “You couldn’t help over 13 years as a bloke to pick up on all kinds of aspects of what it is to be a woman today.”

Richard also revealed he is in discussions with two independent production companies about adapting his first novel Some Day I’ll Find You into a TV show.

“I have had a couple of meetings with a couple of specialist independents, although I know that this sort of thing can move very slowly,” he said.
