The Handmaid’s Tale fans are curious about Eden’s demise

The Handmaid’s Tale has seen a number of characters leaving the Hulu dystopian series over the years, including Alexis Bledel departing as Emily/Ofglen.
As the show airs its final season, some fans have been revisiting the previous outings and are curious about the other characters, including Sydney Sweeney’s tragic young wife Eden Spencer.
Eden was a teenager when she was forced to marry Guardian Nick Blaine (played by Max Minghella), who was much older than her.
The starry-eyed teen became an Econowife, but fell in love with Isaac (Rohan Mead), a Guardian closer to her in age and the pair ran away.
However, Eden and Isaac were discovered and the lovers were executed in a harrowing Gilead manner, with weights attached to them before they were drowned in a deserted swimming pool.

Why did Sydney Sweeney leave The Handmaid’s Tale?
Addressing her departure from The Handmaid’s Tale at the time, the star said she always knew Eden had an “ending” and would be written out of the show.
However, when Sweeney initially read the script, she “wasn’t sure” how Eden’s arc would be wrapped up in the series.
At one stage, it was thought Eden would simply run away with Isaac as the couple made a bid for freedom away from the powers of Gilead.
The actress told Refinery29 back in 2018: “They weren’t quite sure what direction they were going in.
“I just knew there was going to be an ending. When I read episode 12 I was completely shocked.”

The star admitted “screaming at the page” as she read Eden’s final, heartbreaking scenes.
Sweeney said she was “glad” the writers opted for such a dark ending for Eden because it would have a “huge impact” on the audience.
Moreover, Sweeney said the reverberations of Eden’s death would be felt among the other characters, including Nick, June Osborne (Elisabeth Moss) and Serena Joy (Yvonne Strahovski).
Sweeney and co-star Mead underwent a couple of days technical training with scuba divers prior to filming their final scenes.

The actors donned wetsuits and attached various weights to themselves, as well as seeing how long they could hold their breath for underwater.
“So when we got to the actual day of filming, we were 100 per cent prepared, and I was really excited to finally jump in,” Sweeney added to the outlet.
After appearing in The Handmaid’s Tale, Sweeney’s star has continued to ascend, with the actress appearing in Euphoria, The White Lotus, Madame Webb, and romcom Anyone But You.
IMDb has listed a whole host of other upcoming projects for Sweeney, including Scandalous!, Split Fiction, Echo Valley and The Housemaid.
