The Outlander star also offered a tease ahead of his character’s illegitimate son William Ransom returning in series seven of the series
Outlander star Sam Heughan reckons his character Jamie Fraser wouldn’t like him – because he’s just a “stupid actor”.
Scots star Heughan will soon be on screens as the dashing Highland warrior for season seven of the hit time-travelling show. The Dumfries-born actor made the surprise admission at the New York Comic Con event which took place last week.
He told the crowd at NYC’s Javits Center: “I don’t think Jamie would like me,” and implied that was because he is just a “stupid actor”, reports Parade. Expanding on Jamie’s character – and penchant for tears – further. Heughan added: “I would say he’s very stoic.
“I don’t think he’s a crier in that he openly weeps. I think he holds things back. He’s strong. But it’s more interesting to play someone who doesn’t want to cry. I don’t ever go out of my way to squeeze one out, so to speak.”
Outlander fans are eagerly awaiting the new season of the show, which is expected to air later this year or early in 2023. And Heughan offered a hint of things to come when Jamie’s illegitimate son William Ransom returns in the new season.
Willie has been raised by Jamie’s friend Lord John Grey and Heughan said: “I think Jamie’s relationship with Willie is one of the most interesting things to play for me. It’s unrequited love. He can’t love his son and be a father to him, but he has found ways of doing that.
“It’s another side to Jamie’s character that he has this unrequited love. He desperately wants to be his father and he can’t. It makes the relationship [between Jamie and Lord John] interesting as well.”
Heughan also touched on the challenges presented in filming season six in Scotland with Covid restrictions. He said: “It was the cumulative effect of shooting in Scotland in winter.
“We always talk about the weather, but it was really tough. Also, I think it was the subject material, the Christies. That family! Also, the Covid protocols. It made everything slower and more difficult.
“Despite being a smaller season, I think it’s one of the most interesting ones. It’s compact, it’s intense. I actually really enjoyed it, but it was very difficult.”
