Get Ready, Outlander Fans: Everything About Blood of My Blood Season 2

Season 2 is already filming in Scotland.

  • Starz has renewed its Outlander prequel, Blood of My Blood, for a second season.
  • Season 1 ended with heroes Brian and Ellen getting their hands bloodied while trying to run away together.
  • Season 2 is already in production.

As Outlander gears up for its final season, a new saga set in the world of the fantasy series is just beginning to take shape.

Outlander: Blood of My Blood, which just wrapped its first season, is a prequel series centering on the parents of Outlander‘s Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie (Sam Heughan). Like its predecessor, Blood of My Blood is a time-spanning affair, pivoting between 18th-century Scotland and World War I-era England.

Jamie Roy and Harriet Slater star as the fabled Brian Fraser and Ellen MacKenzie, while Jeremy Irvine and Hermione Corfield round out the main cast as Claire’s parents, Henry Beauchamp and Julia Moriston.

“We are going to [show] not only one great love affair, but two great love affairs and how those parallel love stories intertwine and show us how we got to Jamie and Claire,” executive producer Maril Davis told Entertainment Weekly in the lead-up to the prequel. “And along the way we’re going to see the family dynamics of three different clans and see an amazing, rollicking adventure.”

Below is everything we know about Outlander: Blood of My Blood season 2.

Will there be a season 2 of Outlander: Blood of My Blood?

Yes, Outlander: Blood of My Blood was renewed by Starz for a second season in June 2025, months before the August premiere of its debut season.

“The passion and talent our cast and crew have poured into Outlander: Blood of my Blood has been extraordinary and we’re thrilled to continue these epic love stories in season 2,” said showrunner Matthew B. Roberts in a statement. “Just as audiences fell in love with Jamie and Claire, we hope viewers will be enamored by these new couples when they meet them this summer.”

What happened at the end of Outlander: Blood of My Blood season 1?

Season 1 of Blood of My Blood left our two pairs of protagonists in precarious situations.

After learning that her younger brother Colum (Seamus McLean Ross) attempted to have Brian killed, Ellen decides to run away with Brian. As they’re exiting Castle Leoch, however, they encounter Malcolm Grant (Jhon Lumsden), the man Ellen is betrothed to marry. Malcolm calls Ellen a “jezebel” and attacks Brian, who stabs Malcolm in self-defense, killing him.

Though they’re able to escape, things get even more complicated the next morning when the clan’s light burning crosses in a call to action to join the Jacobite rebellion. If Brian doesn’t answer, he will be labeled a traitor.

As for Henry and Julia, the season ends with Arch Bug (Terence Rae) hot on their trail as the pair attempts to travel via the stones at Craigh Na Dun with their son, William. But the rules of the stones mystify them — can they travel through them with a baby? And don’t they need gemstones? The episode ends before we can see whether or not their trip was successful.

What will Outlander: Blood of My Blood season 2 be about?

There’s no official plot synopsis for Blood of My Blood season 2 as of this writing, but the show’s cast and creators have made it clear that the events of season 1 will result in several “rifts” for our heroes to overcome.

Brian and Ellen, for example, will have to face the consequences that come with murdering Malcolm, the new laird of Clan Grant. Ellen, too, will have to reckon with Colum’s betrayal. Speaking with EW, Slater said Colum’s lies make it easier for Ellen “to shut that door forever,” leaving the state of their relationship up in the air.

Still, Brian and Ellen will face what’s to come together. “The way we see them at the end of season 1, they’re stronger than ever,” she told EW. “They’ve overcome so much together, and they do love each other. As Ellen says, ‘I’m your wife and we are one.’ So, whatever struggles they face next, they’ll do it as a team.”

Henry, too, is staring down an uncertain future. With his ally, Malcolm, dead, Henry will need to answer to Uncle Mac (Simon Merrells), now the most senior member of Clan Grant. “This world has great villains,” Irvine teased to EW. “Uncle Mac is not necessarily a villain, but he’s a ruthless man. And Henry has a lot to answer for.”

He’s also going to have to address his relationship with Seema (Lauren McQueen), the sex worker he slept with, believing her to be Julia. “Henry’s got a tough conversation on his hands, which is something he’ll need to address in season 2,” Irvine previously told EW. “Henry was mentally unwell. There’s no way that he would knowingly hurt Julia and betray her. But it’s a tough sell saying, ‘I thought it was you.'”

This is all, of course, dependent on what happens with he, Julia, and William at the stones. “You’ll have to wait and see,” said Irvine.

Who’s in the Outlander: Blood of My Blood season 2 cast?

An official cast list for season 2 of Blood of My Blood is forthcoming, but you can certainly expect to see returns from all of season 1’s major players, specifically Roy, Slater, Irvine, and Corfield.

Someone you won’t see in season 2 is Isaac Grant actor Brian McCardie, who died in April 2024. Series creator Matthew B. Roberts previously confirmed to EW that they wouldn’t be recasting the role “because he’s so fantastic.”

Instead, a new character will arrive in season 2 to help move Isaac’s storyline. “We had to figure out a way to go down the road that we wanted to go down, but it was going to be a parallel road,” Roberts said. “It wasn’t going to be the same road. So, we created a whole new character to take on some of that storyline. But it won’t be the same storyline that we were planning.”

When does Outlander: Blood of My Blood season 2 come out?

As of this writing, Starz has yet to announce a release date for Blood of My Blood season 2.

Rest assured, however, that the wheels are turning. Upon its renewal in June 2025, Starz announced that season 2 was already in production in Scotland.
